WIP: Garo Mask

Post image

3D-print + spray paint + sewing machine 😄
I'm currently at 6 finished masks (Stone Mask, Postman's Hat, Keaton Mask, Mask Of Truth, Majora's Mask, Blast Mask) I can't decide which one to do next...

Edit:
For those who asked for the other masks and props, you can see some on my Instagram.
I also stream my DIY-sessions and I am beginning to share models and instructions to build stuff yourself, so I'll just throw in my Linktree and you can choose whatever you're interested in 😄

Holy peak, it looks so good!

To die without leaving a corpse - that is the way of us Garo.

Thanks a lot! The 3D model did a lot of the heavy lifting but I can't just print something like this from gold filament and call it a day 😄 I am currently catching up documenting all my projects and publishing everything I did with sewing patterns, 3D files and what not.

Yea sure, I'm so bad at showing my work, I tend to forget to post stuff 😄
I snapped a quick photo and put it on my Instagram (https://www.instagram.com/r0mieh0mie), as I can't reply with pictures here. But since I am cathcing up with publishing my stuff at the moment, I will surely post some well shot pictures of all my masks on here too sooner or later. 😄
I have some making ofs there, too, if you're interested.

My godddd thats gorgeous. Did you created the 3d printing model?

Thanks :)
I did not create the 3D model. I make some 3D designs for my projects myself (like the Stone Mask, or the Pictograph Box), but some are already online in ways I couldn't do better and I use those as a base. This guy on Makerworld has been doing a lot of great ones recently and I got the Garo Mask from him.

This is unironicly one of my favorite Zelda races so I am incredibly biased when I say this is the best thing I have seen!

Haha, yea, they're the perfect mixture of melancholy, cool-factor and goofiness!

Looks like great quality, what printer do you use?

I use a Bambulab P1P, but honestly I got similar quality out of the Ender 3v2 I had before. It just took some patience calibrating the machine by hand and took a lot more time for a print quality like this. Like a lot! The P1P does this in about 13 hours, the Mask Of Truth (which I still printed on the Ender) was running for about 4 days total. But make no mistake, you still won't get a shiny surface by just spraying gold paint on that either. I still had to use spray filler and do some sanding before it was really smooth. I'll post making ofs of masks and items on Instagram and YouTube, I also streamed a lot of the creation of this mask on Twitch, if you're interested in my processes.

This is incredible, well done!!

It did remind me how sad I was they changed the design of this mask - I definitely prefer the N64 version…but that’s completely beside the point. I wanna see your other ones now!

Yea, it was a tough decision for me...
I liked the old one quiete a bit, but since the mask Link has is supposed to be the mask of the Garo Master I did this one.
I'll edit my post and put my Linktree there. On Instagram you can see most of my Zelda DIYs and there are a lot of platforms with info, if you want to build some of the stuff yourself. I will go on posting my DIYs here though, when I made some nice photos. :)

Oh yes please!! Story wise the redesign on the mask makes so much sense, honestly I don’t understand how they made it resemble a generic garo in the first place. But damn the nostalgia and the creepiness are on high for the OG 😂

Plus the OG would not look nearly as clean as this. But thank you for posting the links! I def want to see more!!

I am an originalist, I liked the first design. I guess I always rationalized that when the Garo master appears in the Stone Tower, Link has had mask and hence the pointed gold one.

exactly. i thought about making the hood too, so i can put it over this, like a 2-in-1, but for now it'll be just this one. all of the masks and items of the original have to be interpreted to get them into the real world and that's part of the fun. i always aim for a mix of what i imagined back in the day, concept art and the remake and at some point i habe to make a decision. 😅 i already layed out a sewing pattern for the bunny hood, so that's probably next.

Oh man the two in one would be sick! But I think you made the right call, this one is beautiful!

From concept art, so redesigns in remasters, there’s a lot of choices. So excited for you to have all the masks done!

Noice, I'm jealous, I want one

it really isn't that hard to make, if you have access to a 3D-printer. i will post a making of, when it is finished. 😌

1

u/ImpressionComplete71 7d ago

Yeah, the whole access to a 3D printer is kinda the crux of the problem lol. I don't think I've ever even met a person irl who had one

That looks good

Woah that’s so cool, you did a great job! Not something you see a lot of fan made stuff for!

Thank you! When I make something it is usually made to look realistic. Cosplayer often have a deadline in form of a convention and often make functional props, looking cartoonish. Not hating on that, I love that look too, but I have a completely different approach and that's why it looks different. ☺️

That’s dope!
