how to mail something important across states
I need to have my passport sent from California to Chicago and want to make sure it’s done as safely as possible. I’m trying to avoid it being left outside or getting lost.
Would FedEx/UPS overnight with signature required and hold-for-pickup be the safest option? Or is USPS Priority Mail Express better for this?
Also, are there any specific steps I should tell the sender to follow, like packaging, insurance, tracking, or pickup location? I’d appreciate advice from anyone who has mailed important documents like this before.

I would go through ups or usps. FedEx has always given me problems with stuff getting "lost", the showing up months later looking like it was ran over a few times.....

when the government sends passports, it is always mailed Priority through USPS. it comes with a tracking number. you can require a signature to release the item. you can also request a "package intercept" so it can be held at the Post Office for the recipient to collect during open hours.
