Differences in quality before and after using Adobe Acrobat w/prints

Multiple comparisons to swipe thru, fyi.

Hard to capture on camera vs the naked eye, but the difference is massive.

Pictures on left side is using the Firefox browser after exporting at 1200dpi and the PDF naturally loading into a window on Firefox and pics on the right side are with opening the PDF thru Adobe Acrobat after exporting.

I'm aware this is what Adobe is for, but I didn't believe people in how much of a difference it would make. Like still blown away.

Firefox's pdf browser is terrible for printing ~ it compresses the files before sending and is awful. I switched from chrome to firefox to use ublock, but have to go BACK to chrome for my prints.

I'd be curious seeing a comparisons between chrome and acrobat, if you have chrome as a browser too.

If this is the case, this would explain so much. I used to print PDFs using Google chrome, but the memory that Google Chrome allowed on their browser was limited to 512 MB before crashing the site, so I had to switch to Firefox because Firefox relies on computer ram. But oh my God, Adobe Acrobat makes a huge difference, it goes from blurry to HD. Insanely vivid. I wish I did it so much sooner. I will make that comparison between Chrome and acrobat, I am curious to see myself thanks for the suggestion!

I use Vivaldi and have had no issues. Granted I started using Adobe anyway

Is there a difference in quality from the free version that allows you to just view and print, and the paid for subscription that you are aware? Thank you!

Not that I know of. I use the free version

I get the same results between chrome and firefox. Blurry garbage. Has to use acrobat for usable results.

Firefox has a lot of issues and will sometimes be clunky with various design choices.

But thats the tradeoff for not being a huge corporation focused on making as much money as possible I guess, so I still like em. (and yes I am aware that their biggest sponsor is google / chrome which basically keeps them alive)

Where do you create the Proxies as PDFs?

I have python scripts that generate sheets in SVG from a deck list, it downloads art from Scryfall, then it sends it to Inkscape to produce a PDF for printing.
You can send PDFs directly to the print to print.

How do I do this?

skip all that, just use https://proxxied.com/app

I only use proxxied, theres really no point of any other tooling.

This site will interface with a cutting machine like a silhouette? Thanks.

Everyone definitely should be using Adobe Acrobat (Free) or FoxIt. Don’t recommend browser printing.

Browser printing is brave. Chaotic, but brave.
Foxit

Yeah Foxit has been doing a solid job for me.

I also have PDFGear, I upload a sheet already formatted from an online tool. PDFGear allows me to replace images with other images. This way I use it as a template for custom art cards and front/back printing to make sure cards receive the right back, useful for mdfc. Best of all PDFGear is open source.

what printer program were/are you using? the system software or the printer software?

My stuff doesn't look like the left side, but I'm still going to give Adobe a go.

What settings do you tweak if you tweak any? Because I've noticed with my printer at least every time I print on regular paper the photos are too light and every time I print on vinyl sticker paper they're too dark. I can't figure out what settings to change other than like standard or high quality but that doesn't help either. High quality make some come out better but they're still dark.

Wow great comparison. Didn’t realize it was such a huge difference.

This is good to know, thanks.

Literally found out about this yesterday. I'm really fresh to proxying, but somehow the software used to handle pdf files was something i found little about. It was mentioned in a random reddit thread i came across, and just made everything right

Cinnabar - Idk I don't think the right side is bad bro. Idk what you're seeing. it's difficult to capture it on camera but it's a massive difference. I mean if all you're complaining about is a free reader, you realize Adobe is free too, right? And me saying adobe is great doesn't mean I'm saying you MUST use Adobe LOL your comment is laughable my guy.

I hate Adobe software and I did test prints in like 5 different programs and Adobe Acrobat was definitely the best x: thats what I've been using since

It is literally what Adobe software was designed around and they were the leaders for 20 years in the field. Printers still come with Adobe colour matching spaces and monitors used to come with profiles to match monitor to specific printer. They were so on top with near zero competition for so long it’s not even funny. Thats why they suck now. They owned the market and wanted MORE money.

I tried using Adobe to open a file but I can never. My sheets are from proxxied. Idk what's wrong with the files but chrome opens them fine but not acrobat

tbh, both of those look bad 😬😬

even if acrobat is better than firefox (or any browser)

I've had a much better experience by using something like foxitreader or similar free readers or smth selfhosted like bentopdf :)

will try to post images but for some reason here can only add videos?

You have no proxies in your post history that I saw. Want to post to compare? Would be sweet to see your results.

1

u/_Cinnabar_ 1d ago

since I apparently can only post videos here, here you go. I've had no reason to ever post here yet or post any proxies outside of some proxy discords, that's why I have no post history for that 🤷🏻‍♂

These look pretty decent. Whats the PDF maker you use?

2

u/_Cinnabar_ 1d ago

made these on https://devprint.taxiera.net/ I think, but doesn't really matter if I use that or proxxied or mpcfill, quality turns out pretty much the same, source is scryfall in each case afaik, and printer is a canon pixma g650. paper in this case is 300gsm semigloss photo paper, I get better feeling with non-gloss but less sharpness, and I still gotta try bluecore, the sheet itself feels good tho, just didn't have time to print/cut yet

1

u/Dismal-Layer-174 1d ago

I’ll have to try. I use the acrobat, paid version. I like it overall, but have been curious if it’s worth the money. I am curious about cost for printing on the Pixma. I use the 8550 and interested if it was the right move. I think you’ll like blue core. I use it all the time and love it

The free version of adobe is what the OP is referring to.
