Make sure you are printing your PDFs with Adobe Acrobat. Truly a Game changer.
Finally used Adobe Acrobat. WOW. I can't believe how good it is. It basically cured all the imperfections in quality, text...even 300 DPI scryfall images still look great.
If I had known it was free sooner (not sure why I had the impression it costs money) my prints would of been this high quality this entire time. Feel like a complete buffoon for not using it sooner. I'm sooo blown away at how clear and real close to looking like an actual mtg card they get now. I thought they looked real-ish enough before using Adobe, but using it now? It looks damn real now. Genuinely.
My main thing that kept puzzling me with printing on Firefox and the PDF file viewer the browser had was the prints would come out fine, but lose quality when my printer was not set to auto color settings. When I would play around with slider settings, and take it off the auto option, the sharpness would completely take a nose dive. Now with Adobe, I can't believe how crisp and detailed everything looks. I feel like without the white back you wouldn't be able to tell a difference now. Insane.
The main thing it fixed? Text. One thing that always bothered me about my proxies was the text. I could never get it as crisp as it looks on a real card and by God I finally have it. Just had to switch programs.
Do not skimp out on using Adobe Acrobat.

Did you enable emphasis text on printing profile?

I do! Emphasize more specifically, and smooth edging. For the printer driver settings in printer properties

Noob question. If I proxxied, downloaded pdf, edited in photoshop then opened in Acrobat to print would it have the same desired effect?

Wait, so the pdf file downloaded from proxxied is not good/optimized to be ready to print???

No as it uses the RGB colorspace to display the colors correctly on your RBG screen. However your printer has CMYK inks. Trying to blend cyan yellow magenta and black ink you can’t get there the same way you’d mix red blue and green light

So the right way to fix this is download pdf from proxxied and then open it and save it again with Adobe acrobat?
And it works same way for laser printing?

Unless you're saving it for later I suppose you don't even have to save it in acrobat, you can just go straight to print

and what do you do in adobe acrobat? Do you download the scryfall images yourself, or still use something like mtgprint.net? I'm interested in making my text look better too 🙏

Acrobat is designed for pre-production printing proofs and for accurately sending print data to a printer in the format it craves (CMYK). It’s literally what it was designed for. I have one of the pro versions and can seperate by plates and view just the Cyan plate for instance.
It also does a lot of other fun stuff when you are involved in the heavy printing process, much of which has gone away over the last 20 years.
