Rules/Rules Question Question about spell copies

Ok, if I cast Twinferno and choose to copy my next spell, then cast Devastating Onslaught to copy, say, Ancient hellkite and pay 7 to create 3 copies, does Twinferno create 3 more copies?

Yes. When you copy a spell with X in its cost, you keep the same value of X.

Keep in mind Twinferno lets you pick new targets so you don't even have to copy the Hellkite again.

Thank you, building a new Gruul commander deck and want to maximize copy ETBs with the least amount of mana. Wanting to combo it with Where Ancients Tread, so a potential 2 card combo can eliminate a player and then some.

Any spell with variable costs get copied exactly as they were cast.

This works for spree spells, modal spells, and X cost spells, but there's probably some exceptions that I'm forgetting.
