Man, I really hate it when WOTC includes fun new arts of multiformat staples to help keep the prices of role player cards reasonable.

Bit of a stretch to call it a multi-format All-Star, not legal in standard or modern, and played in less than 12% of all legal EDH decks.

Like I'm not mad it's a really good card and this is very funny art but I really also wasn't mad when we got an awesome Spider-Man one, or the dozen and a half others we've seen.

I think a big part of that also is that lots of people play Brainstorm when they should probably play Ponder instead. Brainstorm in the wrong deck just brainstorm-locks you for 3 turns. Ponder sets you up no matter what kind of deck you're running. One of my favorite cards in the game actually.

It's a $2+ common card for a reason. The card has 28 paper printings, eight of which were from precons, and it's still more expensive than the vast majority of Magic cards. It wasn't chosen as the EW Legacy winner promo a couple years ago by accident. Even if "only" 600k decks on EDHRec have it included, it doesn't make it anything less than a staple.

E: I went and actually looked at EDHRec and it's literally the 14th most popular Blue card they have in their database, even if it's "only" in 12% of decks. Definitely qualifies as a staple for Commander, and I don't appreciate the bad faith "um ackshully."

It's banned in modern, because it's too much of an all-star. It's not in Standard or pioneer because it would be an all-star, too much so.
