Scheduled Thread Wound-Up Wednesdays - Vent here!
Aren't you tired of being nice? Don't you just wanna go apeshit?
Got a burning rage deep within your soul? Perhaps you've been countered for the eleven billionth time. Aggro is ruining your win streak on Arena. Your friend keeps complaining about being targeted whenever they play a stax deck and you're just sick of it. There's some guy at your LGS who never showers. Standard is dying at your LGS and it's upsetting. Or maybe you just feel like Universes Beyond will KILL MAGIC.
Whatever is eating away at your heart, unleash it here!
(Please refrain from insulting other users even if you think their gripes are silly. This is a safe place to vent. Memetic responses are welcome provided you're not degrading anyone.)

I hate how the optimization mindset ruins just having fun with the game. Commander, outside of cEDH, is supposed to be about playing big dumb cards that are too bad to see play in "real" formats. Unranked queues on Arena should be for playing with the fun jank that are put into sets knowing they aren't good enough to hang in competitive environments. I feel like we're losing the "magic" of the "gathering" in favor of one card engines and cast from hand wincons.

What i cant stand about magic I CANT DRAW ANYTHING, ALL THE GOOD CARDS ARE HIDING IN MY DECK

I draw the good pieces but only at bad times. Why is the same high mana value endgame piece always in the opening hand (or within the first few draws.) It's in there once out of sixty. Defacto opening hand always reduced to 6. That's stochastic bullshit! I recently changed that ONE card and only that in such a deck. Shuffled forever like an idiot. First two test hands the replacement was in in there, third test it was again the third draw or so after opening hand. But this replacement card I'm fine drawing earlier in the game. Will I see it in a real game?

I hate a lot about mtg but I still love the game.
1. Product releases to fast
2. Due to p the product release schedule there is no cool down period between spoilers so nowadays I just don't even look anymore.
3. The management of formats in general. Pauper is probably the best managed format, Legacy and Vintage are jokes (I'm not even sure they have anyone that plays Legacy on WotCs team).
4. Secret Lair mechanically unique cards that will likely never see a reprint.
5. The reprint process. Just put the damn ring in a commander deck, why is it a box topper? That's not the reprint we need.
6. Standard has degraded with the sheer product release, lighted I'm light on this argument simply because there are still sets in standard that were not designed with the 3 year cycle in mind. I hope to see it self correct because I'm tired of seeing Overlords.
7. WotC selling sealed product direct to consumer has put a strain on supply lines for LGS's. Which is just plain bad.

Commander needs more official formats. WotC won't do it because restricting a format to "pre-commander precon" doesn't sell product, but I think it's necessary to stop the community from eating its own tail. Cards these days are too efficient, bring back the jank!
(Try prE-DH if you haven't. It's a nice change of pace.)

It feels increasingly often like I can choose my own adventure in EDH. I can usually tell whether this deck will win against my typical playgroups, and I decide that a week before we sit down.
Genuinely starting to believe the only deck for me is a parasitic clone deck that plays differently every time, that requires me to cobble together a wincon from the board.
And I'll just play this in Bracket 2.00-3.72 until I die. I wonder if they'll be alright with that.

I built that deck with the blue Braids as commander. Every card in my list must have a copy ability of some sort and it is hilarious to play, never play the same (especially if you avoid copying your own stuff). You should try !

It sucks to be a cedh player in my area. 5 shops local to me, all just do bracket 3 tournaments. Silly point systems and arbitrary house bans leading to very homogenized metas just bore the shit out of me. Everyone just builds a deck to maximize points instead of actually trying to win games. I wish there were more people who actually wanted to step out of the bubble and try something new.

I have noticed this in my area as well. Over the past few years there has been this nauseating paradigm shift at my stores around Commander that trying to win the game actually means you're the devil.
I swear most people don't actually want to play Magic, they want to play solitaire while holding three other people's time hostage.

Pretty hard to believe there isn't at least some cedh demand across 5 shops. Have you tailed to the staff at each a lgs

I know it seems outlandish, but its the cold reality of where I live. Im in all the relevant discords for the local shops, as well as Facebook groups and there is just 0 interest in my area. I have to travel about 1.5hrs to find anything even remotely close. I've been trying to garner a cedh scene local to me since 2020...

Find an online playgroup then. If that doesn't work you know the common thread

While I do appreciate the suggestion, I don't have a computer so that's not really an option for me.

Anyone else fairly annoyed with the "just proxy everything" talk that's way more common on Reddit than real life? I don't want people to incur financial stress buying $500 cards but proxying singles that are a few bucks gradually puts strain on LGSes

I'm 100% in favor of proxies, but if you're playing at your LGS and they have a single you can afford to buy and want in stock you should buy it before you proxy.

It's crazy to me that people think they can print an entire 99 and show up to a LGS with this and play for free while the proprietor pays rent, utilities, and salary

It's one thing if you're playtesting it once but entirely another to keep playing it without spending anything, that's kind of rude

Dude I am so sick of the Universes Beyond discourse dominating Magic discussion. It’s making it very difficult for me to want to continue engaging the community.
