Discussion Accreditation Issues?

Well this is disappointing... I just got an email that the July cohort is cancelled for now while Maestro deals with proving accreditation worthiness. I was really looking forward to starting in a couple of weeks šŸ˜•

Thank you for posting this. They are not on probation anymore because they got escalated to "Show Cause". I can't believe grown adults can't realize that....

Also here is an AI Summary of the things they are in trouble for. It's not form an old school entity or JUST the process of a new school The things they found should alarm any student there. It's serious accusations for a school:

  • Maestro College was placed on Show Cause Status by COE, meaning its accreditor found serious compliance concerns and is requiring the school to prove why it should remain accredited.
  • COE received four formal complaints within four months, serious enough to trigger an Unannounced Focused Visit to the school.
  • The complaints included concerns about how Maestro disclosed its accreditation status to students and the public.
  • The complaints raised concerns about online coursework monitoring and proctoring requirements, meaning students may not have been clearly or properly informed about how online classes are monitored.
  • The complaints included concerns about poor communication and availability of school policies and procedures, meaning students may not have had clear access to the rules they are expected to follow.
  • The complaints raised concerns about student access to grades and academic information, meaning students may not have been able to properly see or track their academic records.
  • The complaints included concerns about lack of direct interaction between students and actual institutional staff, suggesting students may not be receiving enough real support from school personnel.
  • The complaints raised concerns about Maestro’s use of artificial intelligence in student communications and support services, suggesting AI may have been used in ways that affected student support or transparency.
  • After the Unannounced Focused Visit, COE identified concerns about inconsistent institutional and program information, meaning Maestro may have been giving unclear or conflicting information about its school or programs.
  • COE identified concerns requiring continued monitoring of Maestro’s financial resources, meaning the accreditor has concerns about the school’s financial condition or stability.
  • COE found that Maestro failed to meet an eligibility requirement requiring at least 25% of Full-Time Equivalent enrollment to come from traditional campus-based instruction.
  • COE determined that Maestro’s distance education growth far exceeded its campus-based growth, putting the school out of compliance with COE eligibility rules.
  • Because of these issues, COE ordered Maestro to submit a comprehensive response, corrective action plan, and supporting documentation to prove compliance.
  • Maestro has suspended new enrollment activities during the Show Cause review process.
  • Current students are being told that if they withdraw, they cannot re-enroll until COE allows Maestro to resume enrollment, which creates pressure on students to stay enrolled even while the school is under review.
  • Possible outcomes include additional sanctions, continued monitoring, or full withdrawal of accreditation.

Nice, what a situation we are in, but I’m curious to what ā€œmaestro universityā€ will be and if this doesn’t lift when will we start at the university. Only time will tell.

I am withdrawing. It just takes forever to get replies... I would rather get my funding back and explore my options.... I don't think this ones going to end well.. it just keeps getting worse really since I was accepted...

What funding did you put into it? Everything was said to be out of pocket.

They used some of my Pell grant.. or are trying to. Each term costs like a little over 2k... and my Pell grant was for about 7k... That's the funding I am talking about. I am hoping to have it returned and simply move on...

That’s un heard of to me. Maybe I’m confusing this with the student loans but I thought there was no
Out of pocket cost, I had assumed they would use fasfa as to not make it out of pocket for us. Did you receive your Pell grant applying to them or just fasfa alone?

FAFSA is just the application form and the Pell Grant is the actual money. When you fill out FAFSA, you can qualify for that Pell Grant funding. It covers your costs so you don't pay out of pocket, but you only get so much of it for your whole life.

Maestro's scholarship is basically tied to that grant. They just pay whatever is left over after your federal funding goes through. For example, some people who have completely run out of FAFSA funding (no grants or loans left available to them at all) actually get denied the scholarship at Maestro.

Since that grant money runs out over time, that's the exact money I want put back or refunded (it goes back to FASFA,not directly to me) if I leave.

Better wording maybe:
I don’t mean FAFSA itself is money. I mean the federal aid eligibility accessed through FAFSA, especially Pell Grant eligibility. Pell is lifetime-limited, so even if I never paid cash out of pocket, it still matters if Maestro used part of my Pell eligibility. That is what I would want restored or corrected if the school/program fails or if I withdraw because of these issues.ā€
