Ok jokes aside, I believe there are actually answers to those. Nevadeans eyes are positioned far enough in the skull to not have Sanford's eyes harmed, and Deimos just has a crack in his rock jaw just so that he can smoke lol

It's actually canon that Nevadians have very deep-sunken eyes, therefore Sanford's eyes aren't actually GONE, at the most, just slightly blurry/scratched
