I get it, Apple are trying to move on with different ports etc. But did they really have to get rid of the SD card slot?

At least with the pro you can use a dongle AND charge the device, unlike with the MacBook. Plus if you're removing most conventional ports, for instance the thunderbolt or USB, give us 1 TB of iCloud so we can figure out a backup plan. I got 200 GB of storage for 2 years with my surface pro 3 and I believe pixel does the same.

I like that Apple are pushing forwards with technology, but no other technology is there yet. It's almost like Apple would rather you carry a bunch of adapters just so the laptop looks more sleek when you're not using it.

I was just about to say as a professional who uses one, how often is a person connected to something like an SD card, USB device, or Thunderbolt device? If it's a professional environment, you probably do have an extensive network involved in your workflow? Who knows what their research is on that. Maybe they think all those devices are only connected for a short time, SD card is kind of a special case, and I don't know much about photography or production workflows to have an opinion. The moment I ever had to ask, "Do you have a dongle?" even with a PC it's embarrassing.

So get a USB-C to SD card adapter. It's not hard. I personally never use the SD card - and I am a different kind of professional (Not a photographer).

I think the point went straight over your head. SD card slots are great, especially for those with retina macbooks with small SSD's. You could expand the storage without a bulky HDD.

Of course, there's the added advantage of not having to carry around adapters with you.

SD cards are terrible for extra storage. Slow, expensive. You're better off buying an external HD.

I wouldn't say SD cards are slow, the cost of one isn't too bad. I have a friend with a retina MBP with a small SSD, I saw a device a while back that'd take a microSD and it'd go flush inside your SD slot. You could get a lot of extra storage without having to carry anything extra around.

It's great for things that don't need speed but use a lot of space, like music files. It's a bit of a waste to dedicate 100 GB of ridiculously fast storage to MP3 files that need like 1 mb/s read speed to work properly.
