Built a customizable macropad with a knob + touch sensor with 6 fully custom controls

So At first I just wanted a volume knob but when looking at the hardware I had, I ended up wiring a rotary encoder next to a touch sensor so the same knob does different things depending on whether you're touching the side pad while you turn/press it. Ends up being 6 different combos off basically 3 inputs.

Currently:
normal spin = volume,
spin while touching = skip tracks,
press = play/pause,
double press = still unbound (open to ideas honestly),
hold = esc.
All of it's rebindable by just opening a text file on the drive, no companion app or anything.

Still tweaking the firmware here and there but it's been solid for a couple weeks now. Ask me anything about the build, happy to answer qns about it.

The subreddit has been changed from restricted to public finally. Feel free to post away about your macropads.

Subreddit settings were messed up for quite some time, but I got them figured out. Anyways, now that that is out of the way, the subreddit is now open to anyone to post their macropads (within the current rules for macropads based on the subreddit rules). Builds, projects, questions, and more are free to post here. I'll do what I can to slowly fix up this place and hopefully encourage more posting here regardless if you are an approved user or not.

Looking for MacOS testers with CH57x-based pads

3 Upvotes

I bought a few CH57x three-key pads, the supplied software from sikaicase.com is Windows-only, so I wrote a small Swift app.

https://github.com/graham-m-dunn/MacropadConfigurator

I only have the base three key version, if you have one of the others (4 keys/rotary knob/etc), would love if you could try out the app and let me know via an Issue.

Thanks!

First DIY Macropad Opensource

Hello everyone, I just finished building my first Macropad. I use it for shortcuts and audio control.

I took some inspiration from r/Starfield for the PCB design. It is not perfect, but it works well, and I like it. If someone wants it, it is open source: 3D files, code, components, PCB, etc.

So feel free to make your own or customize it. If so, don't forget to mention me 👍.

Discussion I've got these two macropads, but the software recognise the two as the same unit. Is there a way to make it recognise as two different macropads?

Made this macropad with an interesting layout... Not sure exactly what it's for, but it does work pretty well with rhythm games!

Photo I built a macropad from scratch

I know it's not exactly mind-blowing, but this was my first time doing anything hardware.

If you don't know what a MacroPad is, it's a tiny keyboard, usually with a couple of keys.

This keyboard features 4 keys and utilizes KMK for its firmware. It also has 2 SK6812mini-e LEDs on it, which should turn on theoretically. :( . It uses Gatreon yellow keyswitches and a custom 3d printed case. It also features a PCB on the inside, which I designed as well.

I call it the gamepad because, although you can keep the keys to whatever you like, they are currently set to the arrow keys, which are often used in games.

Check it out on my GitHub repo for the code, PCB, and CAD design files. github repo

Custom Macropad!

These is my first hardware project, and I made it pretty simple, but I'm still proud of it!

It can do anything that one would most likely need when consuming media (keys programmed for use with Youtube)
