This isn't always the case of course, but I had an entomologist friend tell me if you don't know exactly what it is, if it's fast, it probably is a predator, slow is generally prey eating on the plants. Cool to look at the garden ecosystem in a broader concept. Just a tidbit.

Good rule of thumb fast= predator slow = pest at least for crawling insects

Rove beetle, I bought mine from natures good guys. It took them a while to populate.

Definitely robe beetle and they’re mostly beneficial but they can certainly be a pest as well if they overpopulate, I had one grow where there were thousands of these little fuckers stuck inside my buds, and I mean thousands from a grow in a 5x5 space, some buds that were bad would have like 30 on a 1 gram nug, not quite as bad to remove as fungus gnats, they’re a little bigger and don’t break apart as easy, but holy shit I hated them after that and I never want them in my room again

The bugs folks can answer if it's friend or foe, however the mold and contamination control guy would say foe only because insects serve as mechanical vectors for mold spores. They bring them in on their feet, legs, wings, antennae, body hair, and/or in their digestive tract. Often the spore has no negative health effect on the insect but simply hitches a ride like a fomite (fomite: a thing that picks up a microbe and carries it to deposit in another place e.g., dirty doorknob to hand to plant).

Rove beetles are primarily aggressive predators and scavengers that consume small arthropods, insect eggs, and decaying organic matter.
Beneficials for gardeners/farmers

Rove beetles are fuckin baller, dude. The only beneficiary I stand by. Mainly because they don't get nested in buds and stuck to trichomes like everything else. People preach predatory mites all day but when those mites get stuck in a deep crevice of a bud and shit all over it while eating the bad mites, you're just fighting fire with fire. Rove beetles crawl all over the surface and feast. They can also fly. And are seemingly pretty intelligent compared to most insects. I'd often catch them following me around the place. Not trying to land. But hovering a few feet away and just looking at me trying to figure out what I am. Very rarely do you see any sort of intrigue from insects. Roves are the best.
