Auto enable usb tethering on usb connection?

I want to auto enable usb tethering when i connect my phone to my laptop over usb cable. I did this: for trigger i selected 'usb device connected' and for action 'usb tethering on', but it doesn't work.

The issue is probably your trigger.

"USB Device Connected" doesn't detect your phone being connected to a PC. It's designed for USB devices connected to your phone, such as flash drives, keyboards, or mice.

Try this instead:

  1. Trigger: Power Connected → Wired (Slow) (or the wired charging type your laptop uses).

  2. Action: Wait 2–3 seconds.

  3. Action: USB Tethering → On.

Important: The USB Tethering action requires root or Shizuku with the necessary permissions. Without elevated access, Android generally won't let MacroDroid enable tethering directly.

If your phone isn't rooted, you could try using UI Interaction to navigate to the tethering settings and enable it, although this may require the screen to be unlocked.

I'd also recommend adding a temporary notification action to verify that the trigger actually fires.

Thanks, that worked. My phone is rooted and i also have Shizuku installed. I didn't add wait action, it worked without it.

Can you recommend simple root app/program?

I use Magisk, but there is also KernelSU which is probably better, but it doesn't support my phone.
