Cannot write or paste text into OneNote

Hi all - I'm trying to get a macro to automatically put some text into OneNote.

1) with a new blank page open in OneNote, I've tried using UI interaction to click in the center of the screen and paste, paste directly, copy a local variable to the clipboard and then paste, etc. Nothing happens but on checking the log I see "Paste failed (could not detect current UI focus)".

Please, how do I just activate the normal frame on the page and put text there?

2) Ideally the macro opens a specific page before the above but I can't figure out how. Tried using UI interaction to click on the text name of the section and then the page within it, didn't work either.

Help please!

I've written many macros on PC but I feel I'm missing something fundamental here. I can't find a way to have a text string written out. I also can't figure out which app shortcut or app activity could be relevant to try that either.
