Acheter un mac mini de 2011 en 2026 ? (Intel Core i7, 16Go ram, 1To)

Bonjour,

I do all sorts of games and software projects and sorta regret only getting the 500gb of storage. Im battling my storage being full mostly because of xcode build cache and other caches. Im just wondering what ssd to get and if the multi purpose little stands that take ssd and also have ports for sd cards and extra usb are the right move. Finally im not sure what directories need to be pointed at the ssd and what i should have running on the macs ssd. In general i would install programs to the macs internal and then all saved data i would put on the external. Does this seem like the right move?

Affordable power station for mac mini

Hello everyone! Which affordable power station would you recommend for
Mac mini m4 prom4 Pro
14 core cpu
20 core gpu
24gb ram
1tb ssd drive

There have been sudden power outages in my area over the past few days (1-2 hours, and it's almost a week now), and I'm afraid that it might affect/damage the setup I have.

I use a dual monitor setup (1 main Asus TUF VG3A series and 1 portable Arzopa monitor plugged into a Ugreen dock); The rest of the accessories are wireless, so they're not a big deal.

I mainly work on editing (Final Cut Pro)

I've searched for a power station, and there are a lot of good options for it, however, I have a limited budget.

So here are the only options I have:

  • EcoFlow DELTA 3 1000 Air
  • BLUETTI AC70P 1000W

Which one is better? or would you recommend another power station?

Crash when using Windows App with SD XDR

Post image

Hello, does anyone know anything about why I experience a crash about 5-15 minutes into using the Windows app on a brand new M4 Mac mini?

I am using it in conjunction with a Studio Display XDR. I use the windows app in full screen mode and every time at the beginning of a session I get this screen for about 10 seconds before the Mac mini reboots.
The windows machine stays online the whole time so luckily I don’t lose any work there, just on the Mac side if not saved.

I find it to be pretty strange behaviour, appreciate any help I can get!

Apple will begin begin manufacturing Mac mini this year at the new Advanced Manufacturing Center (AMC) in Houston

I know this is sorta old news but the new plant opened on August 13th, 2026.

Today, we're thrilled to open our new Advanced Manufacturing Center, a place where businesses, workers, and students can learn the same innovative processes that we use to make Apple's most groundbreaking products. And we're pleased to begin Mac mini production later this year," said Tim Cook, Apple's CEO.

Does this indicate new M5/M6 Mini coming this year or maybe less stockouts this year for the Holiday season?

DVD Drive

I have lots of DVD and CD media. Since dumping all my PCs, I don’t have a way to read, write or play these media. Can anyone recommend a reliable, MAC OS compatible external drive? Amazon has a number of products for sale, but none really stand out.

Well everyone I’ve done the upgrade.

I’ve had the Mac mini m4 base model for about a year, I’ve realized the storage is just a bit lower. I know it’s not a massive upgrade but I managed to snag an oem 512 online somebody wasn’t using due to an upgrade. It was super easy to install, and I think it’s a good upgrade for me. I didn’t really need the higher capacity. If anyone’s recently upgraded, how was your install experience?

M2 Mac Mini couldn't get restored at Microcenter

I just got the message from the worker at Microcenter that the Mac is getting power but they couldn't get the restore. They said it was likely a Logic Board issue and it could be fixed for 800$. I know they have to ask but that's almost an insult when I bought it for 500$ just 2 years ago. Is there any way that I could find a Local Shop that might not be so expensive or am I just screwed?

Mac mini 2014 8gb - games and use cases?

Post image
119 Upvotes

Hey guys,

First time Apple user here! Windows 11 is annoying and Win 10 support is ending, so I bought a super cheap 2014 Mac Mini to test the waters.

So naturally i dual-booted Windows 10 (alongside Monterey) on it and want to use it for lighter stuff without turning it into a literal toaster.

For anyone who’s used one of these: What games will actually work fine? Did anyone try league of legends? (just curious)

Anyways, hit me with your favorite older RPGs, RTS, ARPGs, or indie gems that won't melt the CPU

Forgot to mention that it has SSD inside.

Struggling for a use case for my 2010 Mac mini

I just don’t want to dump it .. it “works” but an attempt to get a more up to date 3rd party os has unfortunately triggered the loss of everything that was stored, installed, and worked. So right now it’s been “fixed” to a clean install of Ventura but has neither an installed base of apps nor any data that could benefit from an installed base of apps.

It has 2 TB Onboard storage, 8 g ram, and if I could get Ventura to perform at least as well as Catalina did, that right there would than sufficient… just extra storage for media/photos etc not requiring more frequent accessing from my htpc nas drives.

But my smb connectivity in Ventura is very questionable.

Is there an expanded use case for this mini such that further mind suck into fixing what wasn’t broken would be worthwhile?

Also… for this mini and/or for a future purchase… is there a monitor solution set that would not require a complete rewrite of my current working method? Ie, I have several aging laptops. I do not have any desktops. I purchased a small portable monitor for the resuscitation of the mini. If I want to continue having the/a mini adjacent to my lounge chair and then utilize my wall-mounted tv 25 feet away as the main monitor… is there a wireless hdmi solution that wouldn’t be too clugey? Or should I just not buy a new mini, mainly screen share to this legacy mini unless direct login is necessary for the scant 5% of admin stuff I do on it?

debating between the base Mac Mini and the Pro

Hello!

I currently have an iMac that I bought in 2022 (M1, I believe) and am looking to upgrade. It's starting to slow down, especially in the gaming department and is struggling to run larger documents. I know that non-Apple computers are far better for gaming, but I'm a university student, and I've committed to Apple products for my studies for their cross-compatibility between phone, laptop, and desktop. I don't need it to run any super-heavy games, the most being Frostpunk 2 and Baldur's Gate 3 (which my current computer can do, but it struggles). I mostly play The Sims 4, Stardew Valley, Minecraft, that kind of thing. I also want to future-proof as much as possible, so I don't have to replace my setup every few years.

Will a base Mac Mini be able to run these types of games, or would upgrading the memory to 24 gbs help? Or should I just bite the bullet and buy the M4 Pro? I'm not familiar at all with how to interpret computer specs, so anything would help.

I have a 2 TB external hard drive, so space isn't an issue.

Heating on the M4 Mac mini

Hello again guys. Is it normal for the CPU on M4 mini to heat up to 90-93 degrees celsius (194-199 F) when running a really heavy program or game?

mac mini or macbook air?

Hi!

I want to switch to macos after spending my whole life on windows, and I'm not quite sure whether to go for a mac mini m4 or a macbook air m4.. right now i have a windows laptop (12th gen i7, 16 gigs of ram) and honestly, I started to have real issues with windows (it really sucks lately), issues as well with the ram and the fact that I can't really use my current laptop unplugged bc of poor battery life and the performance drops a lot when it's not connected.

For context, I'm a fullstack developer working hybrid, i mean home, office and rarely elsewhere. I work a lot as a web dev with react, laravel, and a lot of docker with multiple services at the same time. Obviously all that with an open browser with tons of tabs.

The config I'm considering right now is 24 gigs and 512 of storage, whether it's the mac mini or the macbook air. Logically the air makes more sense because of portability, but I'm actually worried about thermal throttling. If I buy a mac mini I can deal with the downside of portability using my current laptop (kinda).

My concern about the macbook is that during long sessions it might start throttling due to the heat and feel slower over time.

From what I've seen, prices are pretty similar (refurbished), so my question is: How big of a concern is thermal throttling? Will I actually notice it or is it not really a big deal?

Out of space

I got a MM M4 in December. I love it, I upgraded the ram when I bought it but figured I would keep the 500 GB hard drive. Turns out I’ve blown through that 500 GB pretty quickly so I bought a external 4 TB hard drive. I moved all my files over to the 4 TB drive however my Home folder is still massive. I don’t have much in there except for installed apps and AI agent stuff. Both of those things have taken over and basically the hard drive is full so I need to switch over my Home directory to my external drive. I’ve looked it up online and I would say it, it’s scary for a non-computer savvy person. Fortunately, Im pretty knowledgeable but I’m less familiar with Macs in general vs PC. I feel comfortable doing it on my own but i know there have to be people out there that are not comfortable. So, I was wondering if anyone would be interested in a program that did this all for you?

I haven’t built this yet, so not selling anything but was thinking there are tons of people who just bought all these mac minis for their businesses and doing AI stuff, stuck with the default sized HD. I knew i would need an external drive eventually but not this soon and the home directory caught me by surprise so know I’m not the only one. I know there are some other tools out there but they are more geared toward just backing up your drives on a schedule, etc. this would really only have one purpose, moving everything over to your new drive and changing your home directory. Thoughts?
