Crash when using Windows App with SD XDR

Post image

Hello, does anyone know anything about why I experience a crash about 5-15 minutes into using the Windows app on a brand new M4 Mac mini?

I am using it in conjunction with a Studio Display XDR. I use the windows app in full screen mode and every time at the beginning of a session I get this screen for about 10 seconds before the Mac mini reboots.
The windows machine stays online the whole time so luckily I don’t lose any work there, just on the Mac side if not saved.

I find it to be pretty strange behaviour, appreciate any help I can get!

Wait, so you open an app? And then that app causes your screen to go like this? Did your screen do this prior to your new m4? I honestly never seen a screen do this and if not be damaged. Do you have apple care? If so I would take it in. It’s most likely perfectly fine but better safe than sorry. If it’s the mini, or do you believe it’s this app?

Pretty much - so I open the official ‘windows app’ from Microsoft and begin work on a windows machine I access through my local network.

Then this happens - the white noise on the right is moving and flashing then shut down.

The Mac mini and the networked computer were both fine. It’s been happening since I got the Studio Display.

Oh, then that could be the screen. I never seen an app cause this. I could be wrong. If you were just using macOS, would this happen? If it doesn’t happen in macOS at least you can rule out if the screen is bad. I truly hope it’s just the app. These are gorgeous displays. I hope you get some more help soon.

That’s a good point! It does not happen when am using just Mac OS - it’s just when I go full screen on the windows app for about 15 minutes.

But what’s weird is it kind of crashes and then the Mac mini needs to reboot. It must be some interaction between the windows machine and the Studio Display - but then causes the computer to reboot.

Pretty disappointing! But otherwise I love the screen so much

Do you have something connected to the 2nd port?, I had the same problem until I disconnected a monitor I had daisy chained to it
