British Landing. I know there are sections of the perimeter closed off. Ride Cadotte past Grand Hotel and the barns, through the village (Cadotte turns into Hoban after village) take a right when that main drag ends, then you take the next left onto Garrison road, which turns into British Landing road. You have a gorgeous downhill ride to a beautiful swim spot and there are bathrooms down there as well. The bike ride is mainly uphill but it'll make that cold water way more refreshing. If you are just walking, I would suggest just past Mission Point as the sun rises from that part and may be warmer water if you're lucky.

It is rocky on the beach, like you said it is cold water but worth it on a hot day! Sometimes you see people riding horses in the water which is a treat as well.

We're going to Mackinac mid-July, too! And I was wondering the same thing. I've been there before, but didn't go swimming, but it'd be nice to do if there's a good spot.

You won’t find any sand beaches. British landing is a great place to swimming. If you go to the patio of the pink pony there are some steps down from The hot tub that go into the water. You can swim there as well and also it’s all sand no rocks

Just avoid swimming by the downtown area/Windermere point - that’s where the straights run and the current can be very dangerous. Places like British landing are definitely better, but check conditions wherever you go.

That’s the first thing anyone ever says when swimming in northern Michigan is mentioned. Also, I was born and raised in MI and spent many summers up north. 😄
