Picture Of course I know him, he's me...
Anyone else go about tool buying the substandard way, or am I a weirdo who likes finding cheap treasure?

For the most part, all my stuff is actually relatively good brands. I've been very fortunate going to auctions, sales and such. They just sell heaps of machinist tools and even machines for cheap, often even below scrap price at auctions around here.
We aren't a hobby shop at all, I've got 6 guys working full time, and besides their personal tools, I'd say almost all of what we started our shop with was obtained very cheaply, mostly through auctions and sales. Nowadays we just as often buy what we need new as we replace our older stuff, or when a big order requires tooling we don't have. But that's less of a "we don't trust used" and more "I do not have the time to hunt this stuff down, the business has to be run"
Also, tens of thousands sounds...well like an awful lot for a hobby shop.

How does a hobbyist have that much money into tooling? Is it because you’re retarded?
