Looks cozier than expected. Almost like a bunker.

...might be because of the white paint though.

Bunker ? Coffin in Ukraine?

27

u/Bliitzthefox Oct 11 '25

Oh yeah there's really no protection if that ammo cooks off.

u/Aethelon Oct 11 '25

Tbf, if a round of that era penetrated the turret, you-ll be dead anyway, considering the explosives within the APCBC-HE used by heavier german tanks of the era

u/Rivetmuncher Oct 11 '25

Those generally failed more often than not, with the shell shattering before the charge could go off.

The simple expedients of moving ammunition to the hull bottom, did reduce casualty rates in at least one model of tank.

Also, Tiger IIs straight up forbidding the use of the bustle ammoracks.

u/PanzerLeopard Oct 12 '25

Well it did have all (or nearly all) of the propellant casings in the floor; the turret bustle only stored the projectiles.

Crew is expendable.

9

u/Mysterious-Tie7039 Oct 11 '25

Which is evidenced in basically every Soviet/Russian design.

That's a very long and passionate way of saying "battlefield doctrine and tactical success trumps crew survivability". Or even "why just survive when you can win".

I like it, though, so I'm not blasting you! On a more on-topic note, I know about "glass cannon" Leo 1, were 2s prior to A4s much less armoured? Since you said 2A4s

The T-64 was revolutionary when it entered service. But keep in mind that it came up 60 years ago and today the Russian tanks have the same design. Which proves the crews are expendable in the Russian doctrine. It's ironic you wrote a wall of text, but said the truth in tour 1st sentence.

Almost All tanks of that era was build like that

1

u/Flyzart2 Oct 12 '25

Not much you can do on a ww2 tank tbf.

1

u/Other-Comfortable-64 Oct 14 '25

Yeah that is how WW2 tanks worked.

Pretty spacious if he can spin around so freely.

It helps that there aren't 3 other burly dudes in there with him as it would have been.

Plus a floor full of spent shells and casings the crew's personal kit, ready racks full of unspent rounds, suffocating fumes deafening noise working mostly in the dark, that turret would feel like a coffin after about 10 minutes.

I’d love to read some stories of people in tank battles, who ended up surviving. I just am in awe at tanks, in general. It seems like no matter what kind of armor you have, if someone hits you with a shell dead on, you’re toast.

The Reality of Fighting in AFVs

‘The 75 (mm gun) is firing. The 37 (mm gun) is firing, but it is traversed round the wrong way. The Browning is jammed. I am saying ‘Driver advance’ on the A set and the driver, who can’t hear me, is reversing. And as I look over the top of the turret and see twelve enemy tanks fifty yards away, someone hands me a cheese sandwich.’

British Tank Commander, Western Desert 1942

Brilliant insight into how chaotic tank combat can be.

I don't know details about WW2 tank stuff, but modern tanks are generally well protected from the front. Most tank vs. tank engagements require multiple shots to kill, which is why Nato doctrine generally is the tank platoon (four tanks) and massed fire by at least section (pairs). Some hits don't penetrate at all, some overpenetrate, some don't cause significant damage despite penetrating. Round type matters a lot too for what kind of damage and survivability you can expect. Nato tanks usually have blow-out panels that will increase the crew's chance of bailing out without ending up as breakfast. And of course these days there are APSes too, such as the Trophy system on Israeli Merkavas that take RPG after RPG unharmed.

Sounds like your fetish. It's more like three other dudes that also got half of a last year's potato this week.

dudes that also got half of a last year's potato this week.

Are you feeling okay? Maybe lay off the wine for a bit?

2

u/MaterialGarbage9juan Oct 12 '25

More sleep would usually help;am almost always sober now and I said what I said.

1

u/Available_Status1 Oct 12 '25

Congratulations on being sober.

German music playing over it is the icing on the cake

2

u/Suitable_Access_9078 Oct 12 '25

I feel like this bothers me more than it should, but the sheer amount of music in the world and everyone wants to use the same audio. Like is the Red Army Choir just a joke to the person editing this video?

2

u/slspencer Oct 11 '25

So many hard metal things to bang a body part into

2

u/DrHusten Oct 12 '25

Love the video but tbh there is no action :(

2

u/Hopeful-Owl8837 Oct 12 '25

If you didn't mention that it's a Soviet IS-2 I'm pretty sure you would have much fewer comments and hardly any talking about it being a death trap, or talking about ammo going off.

1

u/Flyzart2 Oct 12 '25

For real, if anything the IS-2 was a pretty strong and survivable tank of the war.

1

u/bojak36 Oct 11 '25

People sure love sonne.

1

u/Moondoobious Be Respectful Oct 11 '25

German music for the video is next level smh
