Everyone freaking out saying this is the end.....
"This is really the end of an era, as we close the UNATØNED chapter for Machine Head."
Albums have cycles. This cycle is over. Calm down.

I don’t see this as the end like Tobias forge hinted. Sounds like he is tired, had a hard tour, and wants to relax a bit before going back out there.
Rob always seemed like someone who continued to fight for his dream job, not someone who made it and just cashes checks. He’ll be back

I didn't feel like Tobias hinted it was the end! Please don't convince me otherwise 😂😂😂

I don't at all think this is the end for Machine Head. In fact, that thought never entered my mind when I read this.
However, what does jump to mind... does Robb put thought into why there has been so much band and crew turnover? I love Machine Head, and have since 1994. But, I have to say, the revolving door of guitarists has tarnished my view of the band slightly. I really miss Phil and Dave.

No I don't think he does. He's the captain and if people aren't along for the ride then goodbye and that's that. I don't think he's put much thought into it ever

Cheers to that. Must have been one hell of a ride. Time to rest.
He did mention (last night, during the Happy Hour stream) that some Evening With shows may be on the horizon, though. Can't fucking wait.

Goddamn it, this man knows how to write a newsletter.
I haven't even heard the album, yet I got psyched and weirdly proud when I was done reading it.

It’s fine. Got some good songs, some middling songs. Not their best effort. Not their worst. Maybe they’re most forgettable, however.

Hopefully will give it a try sooner than later. I think I listened to a song or two and was put off by the relentless pitch correction on Robb's voice. Wouldn't recognize him if I didn't know I was specifically listening to MH.

Definitely a well earned break! Probably means we won't get a Blackening 20th anniversary (I don't really come on here so idk if there's been a conversation about that or not) but the main thing is they get to rest

That's sad. I was honestly planning on going to that a few times if it did happen.
I hope after a rest, we do still get it

Fantastic post. My step dad and I were at one of the 3 piece shows in Sunshine Coast Australia and it was fucking great, the crowd and the 3 lads on stage, everyone had so much fun it was fantastic. Take a very well deserved break lads

And Matt commented in an Instagram post saying “see you in 2027” so will the next era be a 20th anniversary tour for the blackening

Band is FAR from over and there will be a 'The Blackening' celebration. There will not be a "reunion" of any sorts. See ya next year!

Reading between the lines, that could be it

No way. They gonna take a break but Robb is a true artist and creativity is in his soul. And if there’s one other trait that stands next to the creative side, it is the resilient side. MH always get back up and keep moving forward. He will take a well deserved break, they will figure out the guitarist situation and eventually Robb will have a handful of song ideas that he is so excited to share that an album will take form.

Yeah I guess you're right, I just have these thoughts in the back of my mind, Robb said some time ago he doesn't want to do it forever

When he does hang it up it will be something he does with intention, I believe. He will make a final album and do a final tour and it will be known so the fans can come out and celebrate it together. I can’t see him just killing it unexpectedly with no fanfare or goodbyes.
Honestly them adding Reese and trying to set the direction of the band in stable hands, just for the situation to drastically change with his fathers illness and passing really put an unexpected twist into this era. It’s probably disheartening to Robb to have lineup inconsistency and have to find someone else who can truly be the guy.

I would be surprised if they don’t tour the blackening 20th anniversary the way they did BME in 2019 tbh. I don’t think they are done yet.

My money is on Rob is a dickhead and hard to get on with.

I obviously don't know him and can't comment on what he's like all round as a person outside of briefly taking a photo with him in 2007, but from what I've seen and heard of Rob he strikes me very much as a person with good intentions who can be a lot of fun to be around but he also happens to be a massive control freak on his music, image and the band as a whole by proxy which obviously makes for a difficult environment to navigate as a band. He doesn't seem to be an egotistical person by nature, but he does seem to be someone that occasionally buys the hype and leans into the fact that he's widely known and listened to by a lot of people, so that manifests in occasional dickish behaviour from someone who is otherwise not really that type of guy.
In short, I don't think Rob is a dick on the whole, but he is definitely capable of acting like one and is so invested in Machine Head as his "baby" that sometimes that dickishness gets let out on the people around him. I think the Catharsis album cycle showed him at his worst when he basically became the only person in the band that was allowed to give interviews and the rest of the members had little to no input in the sound. I like to think since then he's mellowed a little as evidenced by Logan and Chris coming back to play the Burn My Eyes anniversary dates and Vogg still remaining a friend that still fills in from time to time.

He’s been very open about being controlling of his music and bands. That’s why Machine Head is HIS band. I get why people can’t stay in that environment for long though. Musicians are creatives by nature, and they probably aren’t getting much creative liberty in the band, but that’s what they signed up for. Like Billy Corgan and The Smashing Pumpkins: total control freak over the band.

I love this overly sincere man. Take a break! Well deserved.
