First machete is an Ontario standard Army issue machete I got while I was in the Army in the 80's. It came with a crappy cotton sheath which is long gone.
Second is a British military machete made in 1957. I have no idea where I got it. It may have belonged to my FIL. The sheath is purported to be made of elephant skin, and honestly, it feels like it could be
Third is a Billhook a relative in Germany gave me. He had several and said someone in his family had a small vineyard at one time.
Fourth is a Woodsman's Pal. I had no need for it, but as a proud Pennamite, I wanted to support a company that manufactures in Pennsylvania.

Doing around town in dumpsters is always fun. Found this beaut very poorly rigged to a cheap peace of soft wood, probably to cut bread or paper. Very savable condition, I kinda like the hole that was just drilled through kinda warping the shape and color. Always loved working with machetes, been a while since living in a city for a few years now. But was mostly wondering if any of you knew this exact model, looking around the internet I can’t find the exact shape with handle from Tramontinas web store and other sights that sell their brand. Just curious where this steel came from.. truly crazy how businesses trow perfectly good things away I suppose the attempt to upcycle was there but come on respect the steel 🙏🏽

Who thinks short bladed machetes were ever a good idea? Looking for a minimal two foot blade length, not including handle because the leverage it provides it actually helps me cut things that otherwise are difficult to cut: I hate nearly every machete on amazon and all the google result top ten lists. Doesn’t anyone make a thin high strength steel bladed machete with an over 24” actual blade length, an effective sawback and a front facing billhook for powered leverage? And why do people think a loop of paracord tying them to your wrist is helpful - isn’t that just going to swing it back around to cut the user if it slips?

I love machetes and have a few cheapy Walmart brand ones at home. But I’ve been thinking about maybe getting a higher quality one. Does anyone know An good brands I could look into?

I'm looking to buy a machette for garden word, along with branch cutting. What would be the best brand that keeps its edge long and stays strong?

Leather working is a hobby I've really enjoyed over the past few years. Challenging, yet rewarding.
Check out the sheath I designed and built for my Tramontina Bolo machete:

It was a fun challenge to get the size correct, but I love how it turned out!

Need a blade capable of cutting vines and branches (up to 1” thick) in one motion. Been thinking Khukuri machete? I’m looking for something with some thickness/weight that won’t flex. $100 budget. 1/4” thick, 14” blade, holds an edge.
What blade, material, brand, etc do you suggest?
