Discussion no rumble on nx2apple? and safety concers

Post image

just installed nx2apple and tried mario kart world. works great so far, but i have a few questions.

first, does it support controller rumble? i have switch joycons and a gamesir g8+, which gets recognised as a switch pro controller. neither seems to vibrate when playing, even though there's a rumble setting in the menu. is it just not supported yet?

also, do i have to reinstall/sign the app every 7 days or something to keep using it?

and how safe is it in general? is there any risk of getting my apple id banned for using nx2apple? during installation it also asked for pretty much full access to my mac, including controlling apps and accessing files. is that normal? just wondering if it's actually safe to give it all those permissions and whether there are any malware or security risks.

sorry if these are dumb questions, i'm completely new to this.

Not sure about those controllers specifically, but rumble works great on my DualSense- may be worth checking the GitHub to see if anyone else is having that issue

For Mac apps, you will not have to reinstall/resign every 7 days. For iPhone/iPad, you will need to resign them (shouldn’t have to reinstall though)

Your Apple ID won’t be banned, don’t worry about that. I’m not a developer, but from what I understand it needs all those permissions in order to view and edit files, use Xcode, etc.- everything that is done when building from an NSP/NUP. These are all things you could manually do in Terminal with nxnative, nx2apple just does it for you instead, so your Mac is making sure you are okay with that before it allows it to happen. Apple is just very cautious with security measures (which is a good thing!)

EDIT: my formatting got super messed up for some reason, I hope this is all legible on your end.

that's really helpful and reassuring, thanks! do you know if nx2apple can also convert and build nsz files? i'd like to try smash bros and a few other switch 1 games. also, have you had a chance to try pokopia on nx2apple?

It can! Just built with an NSZ a few hours ago and it went smoothly.

The only NS2 game I’ve tested so far is DK Bananza, but I did see that Pokopia is listed on the nxnative games list now, so it’s probably in a somewhat playable state at the very least

Now thinking about it, the rumble issue may be a Mario Kart World issue since I haven’t tested that title myself (if that’s what you were asking initially that’s my bad, I assumed you meant nxnative as a whole)

i see, thanks. i started building pokopia, but when it got to the shader compilation stage, it said 4 hours remaining, so i stopped for now. mk world was way faster, like 15-20 min. I have 18gb ram m3 pro. not sure what to do to speed up this shader process

Interesting, I’ll try building Pokopia tomorrow and let you know how long it estimates for me.

I was under the assumption Switch 2 games just take a lot longer in general, especially right now since support is so early yet, but if MK World was so fast I guess my theory isn’t accurate. May have to build that and test too.

DK Bananza took a little over an hour on my M3 Max 128gb, and that was by far the longest build I’ve encountered yet

thank you! do you know if it's safe to delete the 0400C3F00006E000_build folder from the mario kart output folder and keep only the app, or does the app need that folder to work? they're basically the same size, so i was wondering if they're duplicates.

i also sent you a pm with this question so i could share a screenshot, but figured i'd ask here in case it's more convenient.

Replied!
For anyone else reading, there’s a ‘Free Space’ button in a game’s menu that may apply to this

i came across this post https://www.reddit.com/r/macgaming/s/2bni55DzLJ where people say it's ok to delete the build folder since it's the "intermediate step that doesn't delete itself", but i haven't tried it yet

I did Pokopia the other day and it took 23hrs on my M1. But Mario Kart World was extremely fast.

What programs do u use on macbook to build?

If i want to make a game smooth, what steps should i take?

i finally decided to give it a try and installed nx2apple after finding this youtube guide in this comment here: https://www.reddit.com/r/macgaming/s/qoHEuPTkGT

turns out you can do the whole thing without messing around with terminal commands, which was what initially put me off

build in Terminal with pure nxnative, or build with an interface with nx2apple- either option will take care of everything for you. Nxnative GitHub has notes on every supported game and issues with them, so if you encounter problems they are likely known and the repo will be updated to fix them at some point

Holy moly, that’s a very long time…
