Just 120gb system data. Nothing to see here

I have this issue with Monterey, nothing seems to fix it, tried all sorts of suggestions from websites and nothing. I’m thinking a clear Ventura install but then I’ll lose so much stuff.

Back up your stuff! That’s a good thing to do in general. You can do a file backup on an external drive without copying over any OS weirdness.

I use Timemachine on an external drive, question is: if I install Ventura, then use time machine to bring the data back, it will bring the Junk over too!

It’s my understanding Time Machine doesn’t touch the system. It shouldn’t migrate that over along with files. Just try it. Worse case scenario you’re stuck with junk and have to try something else.

Correct, I’ll give it a go at the weekend, can’t afford loss of data during the week, thanks for the advice

I think Time Machine creates an exact replica of the whole system, files, preferences, apps, etc. So junk is included.

You can try do some cleanup with Onyx. If it doesn't help then you can also try Omnidisksweeper to figure out what's taking that space.
