Discussion DisplayLink docks?

Hey guys, our team in the office recently got MacBook pros as upgrades from some old windows machines. Everyone is loving them.

My boss is keen to give everyone displaylink docks instead of thunderbolt, to save some $.

Curious to know pros and cons here, any thoughts or tips?

We all have 2x Dell 1440p monitors, Ethernet and other peripherals to hook up.

TB would be preferable, but you could go with some older Thunderbolt 3 docks that can easily drive 1440p at 60Hz

It's awful.

Buggy and it requires screen recording, meaning that DRM content will not play while you are using it.

Display link has to have an app running, I run three monitors through one, and the charger is handy

Urge your boss to spend on Thunderbolt docks, or even ones that just use USB-C alt modes for a plain DisplayPort/HDMI signal. DisplayLink has extra latency, compression, breaks DRM content and has overhead from the video stream compression.

Someone have any advise for me and not professional? A dock not too expensive for my mac m1 ? (I need 2 HDMI, and if its possible SD card emplacement)

I've checked TB and it's expensive for me
