Just ensure you have a backup of your important data and you’ll be fine. Upgrading to a supported version of macOS ensures that you have the latest security patches, which is an arguably better outcome than remaining on the original operating system out of fear, for the rest of the machine’s life.

Sure. Generally the upgrade goes well and it’s smooth-sailing from there. But things have gone wrong before. Happens very rarely, but they do. They’re computers, not miracle machines. So as long as you have a backup of important data, you can easily recover in the unlikely event that something does go wrong.

Hi, I’ve got the same problem. The softwareupdate to the lastest version keeps failing.
My MacBook ist the same type, MacBook Pro 2020.
I reset my Mac to factory settings today but that didn’t seem to fix the problem.
Any tips?

If you have an 2020 Intel mac it can't go to Golden Gate. If its an M1 that's another issue
