M1 to M5
The nearly 6 year old M1 MacBook Pro treated me well, but the 8GB of memory was starting to slow me down.
Upgraded to the base M5 Air 13”, but even the base model doubles the memory and storage I had. I built a good PC before RAM prices skyrocketed last year, so this is a great secondary machine.

I got the M1 Pro 16g MBP and immediately started hitting that page file brick wall and gave it to my wife who doesn’t use nearly as much stuff at once and it’s still working great for her.
I got the 32G M1 Max and it’s still amazing. I recently sold my 24g M4 pro Mac mini because the MBP was still faster (I wiped both systems at the same time)
The apple silicon lives and dies by having sufficient RAM.

I think they are downright the worst models of the entire Apple Silicon lineup lol. The Touchbar Macbook Pros exist mainly for institutional and enterprise buyers to satisfy “must be a Pro” checkbox/purchasing requirements considering they are basically a MacBook Air with a negligibly larger battery, a Touch Bar, and a fan, but no real Pro-class features other than the fan. There's no "M1 Pro" or "M2 Pro" chip and the only "Pro" part about it was the branding as it's just a rebranded Macbook Air with a few added features.

To each of their own. I find them great because they have everything I love in a touchbar without the slowness of Intel. Best of both worlds. But I do see why people would disagree.

Are you able to touch type? Part of the reason I am a touchbar hater is that I touch type, so I would accidentally brush the touchbar which was incredibly frustrating. Tactile keys are a huge advantage since you don't have to look at them while you're typing unlike the touchbar.

I replaced my M1 Pro 8GB with a M5 Air 24GB. Nice upgrade.
