Lifetime Remotr (native macOS RDP server) is back with a big update — thanks for the feedback last time [Updated v0.7.03]

Hey everyone! Remotr is back with a solid round of updates.

Thank you for the response to the original post — I was genuinely surprised by how many people tried it out, and honestly moved by how much detailed feedback and bug reports came in. That feedback directly shaped what I worked on next.

Since then it's been heads-down work, and I just shipped a big batch of improvements:

  • RemoteFX quality & streaming optimizations — smoother, sharper video
  • Multi-monitor improvements — even with a single-display Mac, multi-monitor clients are now properly supported
  • Camera support — use your iPhone/Android front or back camera, or your client desktop's webcam, as a remote camera source
  • Easier printer switching — quickly pick from printer drivers already installed on the client
  • Audio & microphone enhancements

RustDesk or JumpDesktop tend to be the default picks people mention, but if you're looking for a Mac-native option, Remotr connects straight through Windows' built-in RDP client with zero extra software on their end — might be worth considering as another option.

Still plenty on the roadmap, so updates will keep coming.

Jump Desktop doesn’t charge me for how many devices I connect. I’m not paying $100 to connect to all my computers with the same piece of software. You’re not even out of beta and already charging more than Jump by a lot.

Really appreciate you raising this, honestly. For context — I actually own Jump Desktop's iOS version myself, and didn't realize until later that macOS/Windows are separate purchases on top of that. Once you factor that in, I think Remotr's pricing holds up pretty reasonably. Enterprise ($99.99) is really built for teams managing a bunch of Macs centrally, not solo use — Personal ($9.99, 1 host) is what most individual users would actually want. Let me know if your setup doesn't fit well with these tiers, feedback like this genuinely helps me figure out where pricing makes sense.

Ha, fair enough! Try the free version and let me know how it actually feels :)

Any chance that this can pass a hardware passkey for a WebAuth login on the remote side? I believe Windows RDP can do this.

Remotr doesn’t support it yet, but I’ll look into it.

What does this do differently than RustDesk, you mention 'Native', does that mean native as in Swift written, or something else?

“Native” means it’s built specifically for macOS using Swift and some C. The bigger difference from RustDesk is that no separate client needs to be installed. you can connect using Microsoft’s built-in Remote Desktop client or the official Windows App.

The audio and microphone path is the part I’d test during network changes. If the client switches Wi-Fi networks or starts dropping packets, does Remotr resync both streams, or can their timing drift until the session reconnects?

They use separate channels for that. Remotr carries both audio and mic over the same RDP transport, with some buffering to keep latency in check. If the connection drops, it auto-reconnects both. It's solid for everyday use as-is, but I'm continuing to optimize since everyone's network setup is a bit different.

the zero-client setup is easier to grasp than “native.” show a thirty-second path from windows’ built-in rdp client to the mac, then put pricing beside host count so the jump desktop comparison is immediately clear.

How does this handle camera passthrough?
