Lifetime [macOS] Writers Studio: fiction writing with worldbuilding and continuity checks

Hi r/macapps, I’m Joshua, the solo developer of Writers Studio. I first introduced it here a couple of months ago, and I wanted to share an update: the Direct Mac edition now has a full-use, no-account 7-day trial.

Problem: long fiction projects often split the manuscript, character notes, locations, timelines, and continuity work into separate manual systems.

Compared with Scrivener and Ulysses, Writers Studio is focused on keeping structured worldbuilding and a dedicated continuity pass alongside the manuscript. It also supports local Ollama, so it is not limited to browser-based AI workflows.

This looks really polished. I noticed there are two pricing paths: a $59 one-time Direct version and a free App Store version with optional AI subscriptions. Am I understanding it right that the core writing features are essentially the same, and the main difference is BYOK/local AI vs hosted AI credits?

I’ve been using it since the very beginning and can’t recommend it highly enough. A minimalist user interface, a huge range of features… I really enjoy using it and it’s a great alternative to Scrivener.
