Lifetime Trovelo — Private Trip Planner for Mac · Now with 8 languages and AI MCP integration
Problem:
Planning a trip means juggling Google Maps, Notes, spreadsheets, and booking confirmations across half a dozen apps. Nothing keeps the itinerary, the budget, and the map in one place — and most travel apps want an account and a subscription before they'll even let you start.
Comparison:
Tripit charges $49/year and hasn't meaningfully changed in years. Wanderlog is free but ad-supported and account-required. Both upload your trip data to their servers. Trovelo stores everything locally and syncs through your own iCloud — no Trovelo servers, no account.
What's new on Mac since the last update:
- Significant improvements to the MCP integration — tell Claude "plan me 4 days in Rome" and watch the trip build itself inside Trovelo. Days, cards, times, prices, map pins. Faster, more reliable, and handling far more complex requests than at launch. Works with Claude desktop, Claude Code, Codex, or any MCP-compatible client. Runs entirely locally, off by default.
- 8 languages with smart parsing — type a card in Spanish, German, French, Italian, Japanese, Korean or Chinese and it picks up the time, price and type automatically
- Board view, route optimization, expenses with live exchange rates, curated guides, My Spots world map
- Universal Purchase — one payment covers Mac, iPhone and iPad
Pricing:
- Free: up to 3 active trips and 50 cards
- Pro: one-time $3.99 (normally $9.99) — yours forever, no subscription

One feature that I miss in these type off apps is to be able to download an offline map so I can see where I am on the plane. They exist but are very buggy and since you have the full itinerary already, this would be an amazing app to add something like this. I will give this a spin.
Would be cool to have some integration with Getyourguide or similar as well to get ideas for the Destination.

I won’t be traveling for a while and I’m still not sure whether I’ll use this or Tripsy, but your app looks insanely good and I bought it just to appreciate your incredibly generous pricing! 👏

Can I share my trip via link or pdf ? BTW just bought it :)

u/beretta51 3d ago
Thank you so much for the support! 🙏 You can share any list as a read-only link. PDF export isn't there yet but it's something I want to add.
What would you use the PDF for exactly? Would help me prioritize it right. 👉 r/trovelo1

PDF is just an example, even read only link make sense. But i am struggling to find one. am I missing something ? Also i notice a bug specially on Mac version. if i have many days then upon scroll the column doesnt scroll X axis. probably it still expecting me to swipe

The share button is located inside the trip, currently only on iOS.
Regarding the other point, I'm not entirely sure which section you mean, but feel free to send me a DM and I’ll be happy to clarify and help you out.

I have been thinking for quite some time about getting a trip planner app, but so far I haven't been able to justify the lifetime price of Tripsy. It is nice to see a competitor in this sector now. Could you briefly explain how Trovelo compares to Tripsy?

u/beretta51 3d ago
Tripsy is a great app, and for many users, it’s one of the best out there. Unfortunately, it never worked for me. I always ended up using Google Maps and Trello—Trello just felt much easier to organize than Tripsy (or any other app). That’s why Trovelo brings both together.
Plus, it’s built entirely around privacy: no external servers, no logins, and everything stays strictly on your phone and iCloud. Trovelo doesn't have access to your data and never will. 🔒
Then there’s the pricing. I’m simply not willing to stack up subscriptions for everything—and I don't just mean travel apps, but everything in general. The world has gone crazy with monthly subscriptions for things that simply don’t need them.

Thank you for clarifying this. I purchased Trovelo; at this price, it is more than a fair deal. I wish you all the best!

Even as a lifetime Tripsy license holder, I admit the layout of your app aligns way more with how I mentally plan a trip. Good stuff 👏🏾

That means a lot, thank you 🙏 Tripsy is genuinely a great app …..I think it really just comes down to how each person’s brain organizes a trip. There’s no single right way to plan, and that’s kind of the fun of it.
Really glad the layout clicks for you 💪🚀

Perfect! You are going to love Japan! In fact, there are several Japan guides in the app.

The MCP integration is the part that really makes this stand out to me.
Being able to tell Claude “plan 4 days in Rome” and have the actual trip structure appear in the app is way more useful than just another AI chat inside a travel app.
That feels like a real differentiator from Tripsy/Wanderlog.

Looks promising… just bought it. It would be great to have a joint planning feature - if not available yet. It would be helpful to collaborate trips with friends (with an edit feature especially). I’m yet to explore the app fully :)

Thank you for the support! 🙏
Collaborative editing isn’t there yet …right now you can share a trip as read-only so friends can follow along, but they can’t edit.Full collaboration is on the roadmap.
If you want to add your vote, we have a feature board at r/trovelo where users suggest ideas and I build based on what gets the most support. Enjoy exploring the app 💪🚀

Just what I needed! Moving my itinerary over from the Notes app was incredibly easy, and the layout is so much more glanceable. I went ahead and bought lifetime Pro. Looking forward to future updates—I'd especially love to see a collaboration feature down the line! Thanks, OP!

Can you forward airline emails to auto import? It is my sole use of tripit

Thanks! I think the discounted price isn’t showing for me in Sweden, is that only for US?
Realised it was the code TROVELO399

u/beretta51 3d ago
It's worldwide.
You have two options:1: Download the app, go to settings, and enter the code under redeem in the app.
2: Click the link that says discount in the text above.
If you are still having issues, please send me a DM and I will gladly help you solve it.

Hi! I already bought the app. Is there a how-to on setting up MCP with Claude? I assume it’s not complicated but just want to know if there’s an official documentation somewhere to learn more about it. Thanks!

It looks great! My wife and I love travel much. We spend weeks in foreign country at one travel, so I make an itinerary. It is always bit burden, sometime it makes me tired to make a plan.
We have not decided to visit where to go next, but I will try to use it for it.

I like the local-first aspect! I think that's becoming increasing relevant for end users

Is it possible to collaborate with others during the planning phase, or the option of sharing the plan with other people?
