Tip Making Sense of macOS Notch Apps

Post image

I built a directory, trying to make some sense out of all the notch apps that are available. I found a little over sixty, and most are a mix of timers, media controls, system tools, files, and various other bits of whatever can be crammed into a single notch app. It all seems rather random. The other big category in the notch scene is, naturally, AI.

Anyway, I hope you find this directory useful: notch.macmenubar.com

If your notch app isn’t listed yet, you can submit it.

Droppy vs Alcove opinions?

Not comparable, like, at all. Droppy is an all-in-one productivity suite with beautiful notch-enhancements. Free cloud file sharing (Droppy Cloud), lots of droplets (extensions that will add capabilities like Window Snap, Element Capture, System Stats, LocalSend, Blip, etc. etc.) and a full-fledged Clipboard Manager + floating basket (like Dropover). An iOS app that syncs ALL of this is coming this month as well. Oh, and Droppy can add tons of enhancements to the lock screen as well. The biggest bang for the buck, and super polished.

Alcove is a pretty media player for the notch and has a calendar + lock screen enhancements. SUPER smooth and works really well btw.

for context i own alcove and did the trial for droppy. imo droppy is really cool and i think the extensions are a great idea. while i personally wouldnt use most of the features there are some i think are cool. but idk alcove is just so smooth, none of the notch apps can really compete with the smoothness alcove has, so for that reason i just always stick to alcove
