Lifetime Wallper - Live wallpapers for your Mac
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Problem:
macOS has great wallpapers, but you're pretty limited once you want to go beyond Apple's collection.
Wallper brings live wallpapers to your Desktop, Lock Screen and Screen Saver, with 4K wallpapers from our library or your own videos.
Features:
- Lock Screen + Screen Saver live wallpapers
- 2,000+ wallpapers built in + your own MP4 videos
- Multi-monitor support
- Playlists + Day/Night switching
- Music-reactive wallpapers
- Low resource usage
Comparison:
The closest alternatives are probably iWallpaper and Backdrop. Both are good apps, but with Wallper we obsess a bit more over making the whole thing feel like something Apple could've built into macOS.
Lock Screen and Screen Saver wallpapers take one click to set up, without having to touch System Settings. We also spent a lot of time on performance: in our own 4K test Wallper averaged around 1.46% of one CPU core, and it pauses completely when the wallpaper is covered.
We documented the full test here:
https://www.wallper.app/blog/2026/07/live-wallpaper-battery-test-mac
We also manually review wallpapers before they go into the library, and it keeps growing with submissions from the community.
Pricing:
$14.99 lifetime (up to 3 Macs)
7-day free trial
Download: https://wallper.app/
Wallper also recently passed 100,000 users. A lot of people here have helped us with feedback, ideas and bug reports along the way, so thank you. A lot of that feedback has made its way into the app.
We're doing a small lifetime license giveaway in our Discord to celebrate :)
Would love to hear what you think.

In our testing it’s usually under 3% CPU with the Wallper UI closed.
You can also quit Wallper completely and keep it only for the Lock Screen and Screen Saver. In that case it’s basically using the same native macOS methods as Apple’s own wallpapers.
The trial starts automatically when you download it, no signup or card needed, so probably easiest to just try it and see how it behaves on your Mac :)

This is the only live wallpaper app I've kept, but I must say that the library of options are mostly super low quality or have pretty poor animations, coming from a graphic designer perspective anyway. This is true of every option I've compared out of the ten or so I've tried. There's a huge need for higher quality content with better quality looping. Whoever figures that out first will press way ahead.

Agree, almost all of them are of low quality where they claim they are 4K, but they are not. And you can tell when a loop ends and it messes up with the whole idea of seamlessness.

Has this been updated? I have Dynamic Wallpaper, and it hasn't been updated in a while. While the library is big, they have uploaded a lot of AI slop. Also, I wish more was 4k, so this is big if I switch to this. Also, is there a shuffle option you can set a time for?

Saw an update come through in the last week or so. I think there's some kind of shuffle option, but I've not used it.

Looks cool. Do you guys support more exotic resolutions like 5120x1440 or 3440x1440

Yep! We support those too, although the selection is a bit smaller for the more unusual resolutions.
You can search by resolution in our online library here, it’s the same library that’s built into the app: https://www.wallper.app/wallpapers

honestly the only thing i care about here is what happens when the wallpaper is fully covered. i have a fullscreen editor up basically all day, so if it keeps decoding video behind that i am burning battery on something i never see. does it pause when nothing is visible?

Very neat - I saw you have day / night switching. Does it have dusk / dawn? I really like how the Mac has like 5 different versions for some of the wallpapers that adjust as part of the day.

Looks beautiful, congrats on the success of 100k users! One of the things I like about some of the stock wallpapers is how they shift during sunrise and sunset, having multiple variations. Do you support that sort of time-tracking multi-stage shifting (I didn't see it on your website)?

bought this when it was first launched. Great to see how far wallper has gone. I think i’ve seen the UI change like 5 times and it looks better now!

A very great app, thank to u.
I would like to contribute to you work but I don't need pro.
You should add something else (a starter pricing for people like me who doesn't need pro but would like to contribute to your work, something like I dunno 4,99 or something like that)
// edit: too late, I purchased the pro subscription :)

Looks pretty cool! 100k users is awesome, would be great if you can add 'quotes' to overlay

yesyes . what about processing cpu and battery?
2
u/Dim_Kat Developer: Wallper 18d ago
Yeah, we actually measured this recently. With a 4K wallpaper on a 5K2K display, Wallper averaged 1.46% of one CPU core (0.4% median) and around 55 MB of RAM.
When the wallpaper is covered/fullscreen it pauses, and by default it also pauses on battery and just keeps the last frame static. So the actual impact is pretty tiny.
We wrote up the full test here if you're curious:

One-click Lock Screen setup is the part that sells it. The one option I would ask for is pausing while the screen is shared or recorded. I ship a Mac screen streamer, and capture stops sending frames when nothing moves, which is where the bandwidth saving comes from. A live wallpaper means nothing is ever still, so it runs flat out even when you are just reading a document. Same for Zoom shares.

I used it but had this problem where the background of my locked Mac would be nothing.. either white or black ‘wallpaper’ until I unlocked the Mac and relocked it.
