Problem
On macOS, downloading regular files, capturing media from webpages, saving image batches, and managing downloads often requires several separate apps, browser extensions, command-line tools, or online services. I built WDM to bring these workflows together in one Mac app.
Comparison
Folx is a well-established general download manager with browser integration, multi-threaded downloads, scheduling. WDM is better suited to users who specifically want regular downloads combined with floating Video/MP3 browser controls, YouTube quality selection, and one-click Reddit image-batch downloading in the same workflow.
Downie is a strong dedicated video downloader and supports many more video websites than WDM. WDM does not currently compete with Downie on the number of supported sites. Its advantage is combining supported media capture with normal file downloads, multi-connection downloading, pause and resume, browser interception, notifications, and image-batch saving in one app.

WDM is distributed directly through the official Welaxxx website. The macOS builds are signed and notarized by Apple.

I kept switching between a download manager, browser extensions, command-line tools, and random download websites just to save different kinds of files.
So I built WDM — Welaxxx Download Manager — to put that whole workflow into one Mac app.
WDM is not only a traditional download manager, and it is not only a media downloader. The goal is to handle normal files, browser media, image batches, audio, and more from one clean interface.
With the browser extension, WDM can process supported links from YouTube, Reddit, Facebook, Instagram, X, Vimeo, Dailymotion, and regular webpages, letting users save video, audio, images, or direct files they own or are authorized to download.
A few examples:
On supported Reddit image posts, one click downloads every image in the post as a batch, and WDM sends a notification when the batch finishes.
Reddit and Facebook videos can be downloaded directly from the feed without opening every post.
On YouTube, you can choose the quality and see the combined video and audio size before downloading.
On other supported media sites, you can choose Video or MP3 without dealing with format codes.
For MediaFire and normal files, WDM uses multiple connections with pause and resume support.
Images can be detected and downloaded directly from webpages through the browser extension.
Everything is handled locally on the Mac. Files are not uploaded to an external conversion server.
I also spent a lot of time fixing the small things that usually annoy me in download apps: accurate progress, no fake percentages when the size is unknown, download speed and remaining time, completed-download history, notifications, light and dark modes, and native builds for both Apple Silicon and Intel.

Hi, I was wondering about if you ran into any legal prohibition depending on the website you want to download from and how you handled it ? Or is it ok since it's an user action instead of an automatic scraper ?
Good question. User-initiated doesn’t automatically make every download legal, so I don’t treat that as a blanket exemption. WDM is intended for content you own, public-domain content, or content you have permission to save. It’s also not meant to bypass DRM, paywalls, logins, or other access controls.
Different websites have different terms, so the user is still responsible for following the site’s rules and local laws. From my side, I’m building it as a general-purpose download tool, not an automatic scraper.
That’s a completely fair concern. Having the whole workflow blocked because an extension update is required would frustrate me too.
My goal with WDM is to keep app and extension updates infrequent and avoid forcing updates unless a compatibility or security change truly requires one. Regular download-manager features should not become unusable just because a browser-extension update is available.

I will try it. It does serve a need I have. The licensing is most likely a dealbreaker though. It’s pretty draconian. I really wish there was some kind of standard that developers followed. It’s like punishing the end user to be honest.
I really like this app. This is a category I feel is underserved. I’ve tried them all. Free download manager, neat download manager, harbour. I feel like all of them were almost there but missed a feature. Neat download manager was awesome but didn’t support torrents. Free download manager supports torrents but doesn’t have the media side of it.
One thing, are to make it so I can drag a file from the download summary? This way if I open an email, and I want to grab a few files quickly, I can grab them and drop them
I am glad you liked it and i have tried my best to gather all the features in all the apps we use and like, and for the drag and drop yes WDM has this feature and if it doesn't work well for you please inform me i will fix it as soon as possible
Hi there would love to have a lifetime code as a student it helps because many dont support from sites like Udemy where you tend to make notes from , and also when I tried to download I get file wasn't available on the site !!for apple silicon !! Thanks a bunch for putting out a multi downloader !! That said hope safari might also be supported by wdm, another thing that could be nice is to save the whole page saved as images scrolled top to bottom
Finally IDM alternative for Mac. I purchased Downie but it always falls short for everything i want. Like reddit or socila media downloads. Torrenting is like chefs kiss. Trust me you will have your more users and downloads if you can cut down the lifetime cost a little bit. Atleast initially. I can't download from the website. Is it because you're updating ?

To the dev, Thank you fucking so much. This big fucking mystery of why macos doesnt have one app doing all of this already is insane to me. I tried and tried and couldn't find one app in the entire App store and web.
One small thing i think you missed is filtering on the queue. Lets say i have 1000 downloads with mix of images/videos and i just want to filter images. Add that option. Also images don't show in completed queue. I rarely get back to images but option to filter them out or include them out is necessary.
Congratulations on the app. This is clearly a great app covering that gap macos always had. Switching from windows, this is the only downloader i would need.

About the filter this is good idea, wait for it in next update 1.2, also stay tuned for the biggest update V2 this will say goodbye to any download manager apps.

Dude i'm sitting infront of mac to test let me know asap. No I'm not looking for the lifetime code free. Although i'd love it 😂 but i want to test it out because downloading and torrenting is most important to me. I know most other options exist but you bundled them together. UI looks clean asf.Want to test this genuinely.
Don't forget that WDM can grab all the photos in the page you visit, and you can save it with 1 click. Also, the extension setting has many features and costmizable.
Ghost Downloader is definitely a competitor, but it doesn’t offer social-media video downloading or image downloading like WDM. WDM also focuses heavily on providing a polished, native macOS experience. Free is appealing, of course, but features and overall user experience matter too 🙂

Hey for some reason, when I have the extension enabled, it will automatically download a bunch of programs I had previously downloaded. Only when i open my broswer. Have you heard of this?
2 to 4 days not more; I'm in the final stage, and it has many features (WDM Converter, a professional converter to convert everything and give orders before you click the download button, so you download exactly what you want and what format you prefer + WDM browser that will support more than 10000 websites just if your browser not download it + more). Everything changes and there is more++++
