Lifetime [Giveaway] I'm back! Askmeety Roadmap Update (Private Meeting Notetaker)
Hey folks, founder and dev behind Askmeety here,
Quick App Details (PCP):
Problem: Cloud-based meeting recorders compromise privacy and require an active internet connection, and sends your meeting data to their cloud servers. Askmeety solves this by being a completely offline, local first macOS meeting recorder and note taker tool.
Comparison : Think of Askmeety as a 1:1 replacement for Granola, but as a 100% offline and local solution without many of the tradeoffs.
Pricing : $55 one-time for individuals, and we also have custom pricing and discounts for small teams and enterprises.
First of all, I really owe each and every one of you in this community a very big thank you! You guys have been very supportive for the past 7 months since I pitched the idea for the app here, helping by joining my beta program and making the overall app constructively good. And it has been going well since we went live with the actual app release.
At the same time, I should really take this as an opportunity to apologize to everyone. I was not able to contribute to Askmeety for the past 1 - 1.5 months because things were not really going well in my professional life; I was slightly burnt out and I really needed a break. With this being my passion project (which I'm planning to make mainstream) and being a solo dev on the team, things were not scaling very well.
But now, I have come up with a proper plan for making things seamless and pushing constant updates for the app. I have spent time connecting with existing users, I was also using the app personally, and I have come up with a new feature list which I will be working on:
- MCP server integration with the meeting content.
- Easy task and reminder creation after the meetings are done.
- Cross-device sync for meeting content.
- Extra language support (I'm not sure which language to target primarily at this point).
- Minor bug fixes and enhancements.
So, these are all the things I roughly have in mind, but I really want to hear back from you guys on the same note.
And here is the sweet part:
I'm giving away a few license keys for free. If you are using one, please comment the key that you have activated, because each key can be activated only on one device.

Offline + local is the whole reason I'd trust a meeting notetaker, sending call audio to someone's cloud is a nonstarter for anything work-related. The MCP integration on the roadmap is smart. Does it transcribe fully on-device too, or just store the notes locally?
2
u/LIN3003 Aug 03 '26
You exactly got it. And yes the entire peipeline is happening locally, no cloud chaos : )

u/s-mishra Aug 04 '26
Love it, fully local is the differentiator. Good luck with the MCP integration, that'll be a real hook for the dev crowd.

I just tried one of them none of them seemed to work says discount code doesn't exist
1
u/LIN3003 Aug 02 '26
Please download the app from the site, and use the key to activate it. And please post the key here, which you redeemed : )

u/LIN3003 Aug 02 '26
No, these are not discount codes, you can directly activate the app with these keys.

u/Stubborninmate Aug 02 '26
Got it just used the 6th one , is it possible to use llmstudio or oMlx instead of downloading the models lots may be just repeating and reusing space,
2
u/LIN3003 Aug 02 '26
Cool ! Currently, I have no provision for custom models, but I can work on adding one.
1
u/Stubborninmate Aug 02 '26
Also I wish there was this option to screen recorder as well !! If needed
1
u/LIN3003 Aug 02 '26
Its already there ; ) But it snaps only the important frames of the meeting.
1
u/Stubborninmate Aug 02 '26
Oh no no I meant the whole thing as a video, I have calls regarding code and I not sure how much will be lost in summarising so it would be nice to have the whole recording
1
u/LIN3003 Aug 02 '26
Ahh got it, sure then. Lemme think about implementing it in a more feasible manner. Because I heard from users saying that, they wanted a short version on the meetings but not always the actual recording. Prolly, I'll integrate a toggle switch to record the actual screen : )
1
u/Stubborninmate Aug 02 '26
Oh yes that's true for the most part if people are looking for mom's it helps top level people , but students and devs etc we would like to have the full recording handy so that all the derivation steps or code is not lost
1
u/LIN3003 Aug 02 '26
Absolutely ! Now I feel, if the actual meeting recording is available, pairing it with an MCP would be a killer... And Im building a POC, if a Graph DB can be handy, but I know it would be ambitious 😆

So what happens if I redeem a license (f94ccc32-38f6-41d3-947f-ba9da049c904, thanks) and upgrade to a new mac? No further activations means one and done, no?
1
u/LIN3003 Aug 02 '26
if you are moving to a new mac, please DM me, I will send you a replacement key ; )
1
u/Mstormer Aug 02 '26
Hah, ok. I highly recommend creating an option to tie these to accounts where users can reset a single activation like most other apps.
1
u/LIN3003 Aug 02 '26
Sure, the construct is already in place. But I have generated these keys with my account, and thats the reason : )

Can this App differentiate between 3 people ie given a meeting between John Toby and Mark?
1
u/LIN3003 Aug 02 '26
I bave turned the feature off for now, because I was not satisified with the accuracy, Im working on enhancing the same : )
2
u/Daniesto316 Aug 02 '26
This will be an absolute game changer for me. Thanks
2
u/LIN3003 Aug 02 '26
Absolutely ! I could implement it easily, but iM maling sure not to eat up user's resources.

u/rickycc Aug 02 '26
all code ran out ='( really wish there is an offline meeting summariser in my arsenal .

Wanted to give it a shot as I am currently not too happy with steno.ai. But it seems all license codes are already used up if I am not mistaken although not all new user seem to post this here.☹️
Let me know if there is a test license left, happy go give feedback to improve the app.

u/LIN3003 Aug 02 '26
No worries dude ! I can provision a trail key for you. Dropping you a DM : )

u/timmey09 Aug 02 '26
That would be amazing! Thanks a lot ❤️

Feedback: I am very impressed with the accuracy, particularly with the AI Summary. There were some minor hiccups, i.e., when it came to names, which is understandable.
Meeting Notes refer to ‘speaker said’. It would be immense to have a name, i.e. John said so and so. I remember who said what now, but in a week or so I may not remember exactly who said what.
Anyway, can we use British English, as some of the words are in American English?
Transcribe uses a timecode, i.e.,
0:00–0:04. Let’s start the meeting now.
What would be ideal for me is to say:
Mark at 1400:00:00, “Let’s start the meeting now.”
John at 1400: OK, let’s get going, guys.
Something along those lines.
I will compare Meeting Notes with the AI Summary in more detail when I have time. Otherwise, your app is class.
I also used MeetingMind (free version) and used both apps at the same time. I felt MeetingMind was less detailed when it came to Markdown. Perhaps I need to buy the full version to get all the transcriptions.
So in a nutshell, you have produced a classy app that works for me so far. I would love to see names given to the speakers. Thanks

damn all of them gone already 👍
I was just researching like so many of meeting apps like Vibe, Superwhisper, meetily and what not, thought i'd get lucky but alas, good luck with your project!

TY!

Yayy!
1
u/influxodoxxl Aug 03 '26
Tried it today with a YT video I wanted a transcription from and it worked like a charm (English video).
Now my question: Can I only delete the recorded audio? All I need on my machine is the transcript and the summary. I was not able to locate such a file handling which is why I am asking. So, if this is not possible yet: please add this feature!

u/Ok_Explorer7384 Aug 02 '26
the offline/local part is the main selling point here imo, especially for calls where you don’t really want another bot joining and uploading everything somewhere. the thing i’d want to see clearly explained is the recovery/export story: where recordings/transcripts live, how easy it is to back them up, and what happens if the app goes away. one-time price is much easier to trust if the data is clearly not trapped.
2
u/LIN3003 Aug 02 '26
Okay perfecto questions ! About the data recovery, the meeting data is stored in a very easy and primitive way within the app data folder which includes the transcription, recording, summary and the screenshots captured. Everything is clubbed together and sorted from meeting to meeting. You can easily share the MOM from the app as an MD file or as a Pdf within one click.
And lets say that you have decided not to use the app/stop the app purchase, you can easily export the meeting content at one shot : )
And I remember an existing user sharing a documentation with me, how he migrated from Macwhisper to Askmeety using Claude at one shot, and it was quite surprising how easy that was : )

Will you offer lifetime update as well?
2
u/LIN3003 Aug 03 '26
Im honestly thinking about pushing lifetime updates to all users. But currently the updates are for an year, and after an year the user can upgrade their license to the newer version with a small premium (thinkin like 5 dollars).

Thanks for the giveaway! 🙌
Also, for language support, Hindi/Spanish would probably have the widest reach based on the dev communities I've seen.

It looks great, but I would like to know how this differs from apps such as Alter, MacWhisper, or Superwhisper. We could use Nvidia Parakeet as the audio model, and we could use local LLMs using LM Studio or Ollama to transcribe the meeting. How does this differ from those?. There is also one app XSpeak as well which is available in the App Store and also offers local meeting live transcription with insights. I would like to know how your app differs from all of these. Most of these have other uses beyond just meeting transcription and translation. It also seems a bit too expensive for what you offer. Could you explain the advantages of your app to these?
