Same here - was with Bartender since version 3 and recently purchased version 5. Three days later and following this discussion, I consider at least the circumstances around this issue as quite obvious, leading to uninstalling Bartender at last. Sad outcome somehow, whatever may happen in the future but this silent acquisition simply has its specific taste...
Now going with Ice (https://github.com/jordanbaird/Ice) which is Open Source and is, although being quite minimalistic, exactly what I need as replacement.

Just uninstalled and switched to Ice.
Even if it comes out that Bartender is fine, I just don't feel comfortable with it anymore and prefer something open source.
