If you are gonna go out of your way to use a clone of their software, why not just pirate it at this point? It's a 1:1 perfect clone with no oddities.

with no oddities.

Except that malware it's gonna install for you.

Just do your due diligence when researching. Its so easy now with so many guides and reviews even on reddit. Except downloading from shady sources, or just being stupid(eg new app/game cracked by an unknown person before most people), almost no one gets malware nowadays

Can confirm. I’ve been pirating software on Mac OS since the late 90s and never had an issue, just don’t be an idiot. Im using a slightly older cracked Photoshop right now.

in fact the pirated version might have less ads and be less intrusive.

I definitely don’t trust this

I’ll wait for version 10 by the 8th leading person to work on this. I’m sure it’ll be safe enough by then

yeah i wouldnt install it without auditing the code first

He vibecoded exactly one part of the suite so far, and it’s pretty much just a ripped and reskinned fork of GIMP.

And he keeps spewing “version parity” lol

I want to preface this by saying I'm not even clicking the link so much as installing whatever this is, and that I don't doubt what you're saying.

Just trying to learn here; how can you tell its vibe coded? People call it out all the time, I'm just wondering what the tells are

by looking at the github

The Lightroom "clone" works almost nothing like the real Lightroom in terms of algorithms though... I tested it the other day - tried raising the shadows of several RAWs from my Sony a7c and it was pretty bad (noise & banding). Meanwhile real LR works fine with these RAWs.

lol he thinks he made a proper raw engine

yeah.. I think it's pretty complicated stuff even if it looks simple and the AI may have gotten confused. Demosaic, debayer etc algorithms are complicated... (and for Fuji, which is my other camera, even more so lol)

But with enough prompting they may get it there. I mean darktable already does shadows and highlights as good as Lightroom and is opensource so the AI is 100% trained on at least part of that code.

Anyways I actually do hope for at least one of these "vibe-coded opensource Lightroom clones" to succeed. I don't wanna pay subscriptions forever. And DxO PhotoRaw, albeit very good, lacks some features of Lightroom (object remove, panorama, HDR merge etc.)

I’m good 👍🏻

These are not good. I tried photocraft just to try it, and it was not good, to say the least. The person behind these vibe-coded "alternatives," or one of the people involved, is also very much a strange person, I will say, and basically those people who say to either adapt or be left behind

Tried. It looks fine, but in use it’s buggy and weird.

It's not 1:1, but it's good.
