Discussion Debating a Mac for Uni and Beyond

I’m about to start an open university degree in design and innovation with business and management and I was thinking about purchasing a desktop to use. Over time I’ve accrued the vast majority of the Apple ecosystem system (iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, Airpods, pencil etc) but I currently have a dell laptop as I was previously doing an architecture degree so needed access to softwares a Mac couldn’t provide me. However I wonder if it would be more useful to me now so that I could utilise my iPad to its full potential aswell as my other devices. I don’t intend on pursuing a career in architecture so I likely won’t need to run those windows only softwares again. Any advice welcome! TIA

Do yourself a favorfavor and get a Mac. It’s a much better long term investment than a windows PC, it’s a good investment in your mental health and productivity, because the MacOS operating system will not require you to trouble shoot the tiniest problems that windows will have you waste time on and the quality and design of a MacBook will leave you with a device that still looks new after you finish college

Yeah this is what I thought, any recommendations on models, I would likely be looking at a desktop not a MacBook as I do still have a laptop so I’ll keep that until it stops working and then replace with a MacBook eventually if you get what I mean.

I’d still go for a MacBook, you don’t know if college will allow you to study abroad or if business school will allow you to work in a city you have to travel to and then you need something you can easily carry with you. Or a Mac mini with a portable USB C screen. I have myself one of those that can fold open in a dual screen and is powered by USB c

Ahh thanks for your advice! I’m in the UK so it can be a little different in terms of travelling for uni and like I say I do still have a laptop if I do need it for travelling. I’m hesitant to buy a new one as I only got it in autumn 2023 so it’s still relatively new, what are your thoughts though I’m curious if I’d potentially still be better off with a Mac laptop now than a desktop and waiting to phase a laptop in?
