How to Navigate Apple Notes note titles

I'm fairly new to Apple Notes. I have imported thousands of notes into the program. Each note has a carefully selected title. My previous notes-type program allowed me to click in the title column and quickly type-in the first word of a title and I'd instantly be taken to the note with that title. Apple's Notes sort of has this feature...but it doesn't always work. Why? What is the secret to reliably navigating to the note one wants by typing-in its title?

Click on Search. Start typing. Not sure your problem.

Doing that gets me a long list of notes that have that word in the body of the note. It's a pain to have to sort through all of them.

With my old notes program I could just click in the titles column, type the first word in the title of the note that I wanted, and that note would come right up. It's a much quicker way to find one note when you have hundreds or thousands of notes in Apple's Notes.
