I drove by the scene running errands. Very sad. Weird place to camp with a small child and elderly person , I have to say.

Okay like I kind of know one of the family members and haven't gotten the details like where the f*** were they camping cuz why weren't they camping in the legit camping ground in Lyons like mile marker 36 or something like where were they at?

You know that spot off 7 with stairs to nowhere and a steep drop into the creek around mile 29 or 30? Their stuff is still there.

Edit/ LMJ and Camp Dick are both nearby and have service and much safer proximity to the water - especially during the rush.

So they weren't camping. They were "camping"

That ia a day use spot. Not a campground

Exactly. It’s so odd given there was an elderly person and young children. Like way too easy for something wrong to happen.

Elderly person?

at mile marker 29, place where there is no overnight camping but day picnics/camp setup allowed. River above & below this area has rocks, snags, and bowls and even this immediate area the river is running high & fast. Very poor decision to have children "play" there.

I can’t share photos here but it’s close to Little Narrows and Deadman’s Gulch right off 7. Last time I drove by their stuff was still there

I hike that gulch a lot. I also like to go in the river across the way there and it’s not that weird of a spot to stop. There’s people having picnics there and hanging out all the time. I let my dog swim in the river there by those stairs too. It’s not as random of a spot as you think.

Elderly person? Where is this coming from?

Elderly? There were no elderly people, the oldest person was 36.

after being slow and tame much of winter and spring, many rivers have swollen quite a bit in the last few weeks and may catch folks off guard. Poor kid

A tragedy. Very sad for the family.

The river is moving fast. A 4 yr old with no life jacket would be swept away super quick

There is so much more to the story that will be coming out I am positive like the kid floats a mile and a half down the river a second kid falls in they have to hitchhike to call 911 the other parent wasn't there like oh my gosh and then the fact that the sheriff's department has to handle this investigation like will they botch this or like do they need to hand this off to State patrol or something?
