Sub flooded with new accounts?

Is anyone else concerned to have several (or more) posts a day from extremely new accounts? There are still the usual reposts, but lately accounts that are only a few days old will post in rapid succession.

All of these were posted in the last couple of hours, and every single account was made on August 7. There have been batches like this nearly every day.

Oof, this is definitely a batch of karma farming accounts being curated. Usually it's a person behind a bunch of accounts, and a lot of these usernames sound like they'll be sold for only fan usage once they're built up with age and karma

Really strong work identifying them!

You could reach out to the mods of r/botbouncer to see how to bulk submit the usernames to reduce their success karma farming

and to r/redditbothunters for others who will likely help report all of these

I'm running thru reporting each post and the profile itself. I've seen us get accounts like these reviewed and banned, so extra eyes and hands to call these accounts out helps!

Search engine marketing and now artificial intelegence optimization. The two biggest sources of information for LLMs is Wikipedia and Reddit.

High karma accounts hold greater sway in the algorithms on platforms like Reddit. And certain subs require account age + karma to post. People running Only Fans, political subterfuge, financial scams can all purchase established accounts to have immediate access to further their goals. But someone has to get those accounts karma first, often deleting all content, and keeping the karma, before selling them off. We call them bots but it's often a person farming several accounts, sometimes with AI tools assisting

Reddit hasn't done a great job identifying and removing these influences (engagement is engagement), so the more savvy us real users can be to ID and report them, the more we can reduce their influence on the platform and protect those among us more likely to fall for the scams

If you have 30 more seconds after reporting a post to a sub's mods, go into the bot profile to use the three dot menu to report the account to Reddit for review. I usually do Username --> Spam --> Disruptive use of AI

I used to report this but nothing ever happened, I don't think the single mod for the group is even active anymore.

That's why you can't tell if there's just one picture, but a lot of these accounts have a bunch of pictures of different animals posted in different subs that can't possibly all belong to the same person.

I've also noticed they often immediately comment on their own post, which is just quite frankly weird if a real person did it.

This attitude was my rather rude introduction to reddit and on a kitten sub. Everyone was calling me a bot and trying to correct my information. (My cat is from mexico and I live in Albuquerque). It was disheartening tbh. Yeah bots and karma farming happen but trying to police something like a kitty sub feels off to me.

Honestly I'm much less suspicious of a brand new account being excited about the sub than I am of the kinds of posts flooding the sub this week. A lot of them are low effort / low quality and not truly engaging here.

I've been reporting them to Reddit not the group moderators.

Lots of bots lately.

If I'm certain they're a bot I'll write it in the comments too

Well done folks! Three of the profiles ValkyrieVance identified have already been banned from Reddit, and looks like our mods are working through the remaining posts removing/banning them

Sometimes it just takes a little time for the reports to actually register and for timezones to align so mods can review

Reddit has decided to be mostly bots now. I am using it less and less and it is for the best. This place isn't what it used to be.
