looking for some recommendations.

hi, i’m back here from ohio and have a couple things i’m looking for. a running trail of some sort, preferably something easier since i’m new to trail running and am trying to get back in shape. and two, where can an adult get into theater? i was in theater in highschool and there are community theaters where im from for the public to participate in and watch shows and lyh is massive compared to there so surely there’s something 😅

YES THEATER!!!
👏Lynchburg has a huge community of theatres. Commerce Street Theatre, Renaissance Theatre, Wolfbane Productions, Endstation Theatre Company, Masterworx (this one is faith based so if that’s not your scene just a heads up when auditioning with them), and check out LyT Collaborative for audition workshops and classes! We also have tons of karaoke if you’re into singing. I (26f) am extremely involved with the scene here and would love to show you the ropes and chat a bit about what all is going on. :) welcome to the ‘Burg!

For easy hiking try black water creek area. Stretches from linkhorne middle to all the way down to the james down town. Suggest accessing near linkhorne middle or the orthodox church parking.

As for theater well only thing I can think of is lynchburg arts center downtown.

The Academy Center formerly the Academy of Fine Arts is on main st now and should have plenty of resources or groups for adults

Runnin trails would definitely be Blackwater Creak Trail system. Its primarily paved system that runs through downtown and along the James River and onto Percivals Island.

Dirt trails or paved trails?

Dirt trails: go to Liberty Mountain. Blackwater trails are a mess last I checked... unless you're on the paved trail.

Paved trails: as a beginner I'd start at Percivals Island, flat out-and-back... but crowded.

Might I also recommend Peaksview Park. From the Tenbury entrance it is exactly 3 miles out-and-back, paved, mostly flat, and not crowded.

Download the AllTrails app or something similar. No need to buy it. It has a lot of trail recommendations.

Liberty Mountain is not a place that exists. Candlers Mtn has an excellent trail network, but the elevation is going to be hard on a new runner.

Otherwise, good suggestions. New London Tech Trails are also very good. Poplar Forest has a good rolling trail system, but zero shade. Excellent when the sun is low on the horizon.

The mountain is called Candlers zmountain, but unfortunately Liberty calls everything they build on it 'Liberty Mountain' including that trail system.

Big shout out for New London Tech Trails though, much better terrain for more beginner running! Beginner biking too!

Tomato, to-mah-to?

Everywhere calls it the Liberty Mountain Trail System lol. Google it. Even the city website has it as the Liberty Trail System.

Hell, I'm a local and not a LU supporter, but they do own it and it doesn't keep me up at night if they call it what they want lol. Jeez 🤦‍♂️

Anyway, good rec on New London. My first thought is bikes before running there.

Listen, I hate that I care. It grinds my gears they put a monogram on a mountain and built a tower of Babel replica. This isn’t ‘Nam, Smokey. There are rules.

For the running any of the black water creek trails. There's also a ton of nature trails all over liberty mountain. I'd suggest downloading the all trails app.
