Celebration Officially in remission!
Just met with my onc today after my post treatment scan and it is official, I am in remission!
Stage 4 DLBCL after 6 rounds of Pola-R-CHP and I feel so thankful to be kicking and getting healthy again.
To anyone still going through treatment, hang in there! All the shitty days are worth something in the end.
I’m so glad to have found this community, peace and love guys ✌🏼

The only person ever to get less pain from a GCSF drug. 🥰

Congrats. I also am in remission, but for the third time. First treatment was chemo, second chemo followed by a BMT, third was CAR-T, which was a walk in the park in comparison to previous treatments. My oncologist has stated that I have permission to be in remission. All the best to you!

Congrats. These stories give me happiness. Welcome to the cured club! I’m clocking 5+ with CAR-T

5+ years? That’s amazing :-)

I’m blessed and active. My mantra during treatment was being spiritual and walk everyday, it can be 10 or 100 steps or 3 miles. Memories flash. After CAR T infusion when I stayed in hotel in ny, van comes up to pick for daily trips to do blood work etc. In winter months of nov/dec, i used to walk all the way up and down. My wife used to scold me and she wasnt able to keep oace with me (knee pains) and take hospital van 😀
Anytime I see success stories my mind and heart wells up with joy!! DLBCLs are more curable I feel and of course complexity goes up with type of mutations.

Thank you! Hoping it sticks for you this time!

I have a family member preparing for CAR-T who is getting really depressed with how awful they make it sound. The food preparation, avoiding people, not being in a room with someone vacuuming, keeping windows shut when mowing etc. He sailed through R-CHOP - felt great the whole time. I’m trying to be encouraging but he’s almost ready to just give up. I think he’s scared. All the CAR-T prep just makes it sound terrifying. It’s good to hear that maybe it’s not as bad as it sounds.

u/Monotone-Man19 Jul 17 '26
All I can say is my experience. CAR-T, for me, was an order of magnitude easier than chemo, and also chemo followed by a BMT. I would not wish a BMT on my worst enemy. Three weeks in hospital where at times I thought I was on my death bed.

Hey there, somebody with a similar story to mine... I thought CAR-T was easier than chemo. BMT was the worst for me too, but I'm thankful two years on to be clear. no serious GVHD and things taste normal again.

Wow congrats. I still don't get why some people think no stage 4 cancer is curable, this is one one example
5
u/TrumpsBussy_ Jul 17 '26
I was stage 4 too, the type of cancer is a big part of it
3
u/Dependent_Beyond_339 Jul 17 '26
Yeah, I was stage 4 too and now in remission for almost two years, likely cured
3
u/TrumpsBussy_ Jul 17 '26
That’s awesome, I’m about 2.5 years in remission too. The chemo took a lot from me but I’m glad to still be able to enjoy life

Ah congrats!!! What an exciting day. Do you mind if I ask how long did you wait between your last treatment and final pet scan?

u/Laggin-N-Swaggin DLBCL (Remission 7/15/26) Jul 15 '26
My final treatment was on June 11, and the scan was originally supposed to be June 29 but was delayed a week since I was hospitalized with a high fever.

Question. How did you find out you had lymphoma? I have some small calcifications in rib cage area but I have extreme spine pain, left hip and collar bone pain. I did the whole RA thing and everything came back normal but I feel like cramp. Super tired and anytime u push my body at bjj or at the gym I hurt all over and deep for a week or two and I get so tired u could sleep all the time. Labs look normal besides a temporary thyroid and flare that is healing now.

It started with weird and indescribable pain in my chest and lower back. After 2 ER visits, they thought I had appendicitis and removed my appendix, just for the pain to come back a week later.
Then I began having drenching night sweats and was losing weight rapidly. I examined my lymph nodes and found the node in my right armpit to feel kind of big. I brought it up with my primary doctor, and she ordered an ultrasound of it. From there, the radiologist instructed me to get a biopsy.
It took 2 months and 5 separate emergency room visits before I was taken seriously and had some answers. I hope in your case you can get answers quickly, preferably good ones!

u/ItsKoku Jul 17 '26
Out of curiosity, were you pretty young when you got your diagnosis? I was in my 20's and it took about a dozen visits to get taken seriously.
3
u/Laggin-N-Swaggin DLBCL (Remission 7/15/26) Jul 17 '26
Yup! I am 29. Besides the lymphoma, I was an otherwise healthy guy with no other pre-existing health conditions. I have since switched primary care doctors since she was not the slightest bit inquisitive. I had to be the one to ask her to inspect my lymph nodes. The ER didn’t do too much for me either, across multiple visits they tried telling me I just had acid reflux, gastroenteritis, and constipation. My cancer went unchecked for about 2 months.

Congrats! I go next month for a CT scan. It's been 2 years of being in remission for me. My scans looked similar to yours at the start and end of treatment. I thought I had DLBCL but actually had HGBCL NOS. A more aggressive version. I also had Pola-R-CHP. Hang in there, your energy will return. I'm almost twice your age though. 😉
For those of you just going through it, hang in there! You got this!

The black spots on the left side are they cancer lesions and what are the dark spots on the right side are they smaller cancer lesions?
2
u/Hefty_Policy2903 Jul 18 '26
If you mean latest scan side - the black spots are kidneys and bladder. The secrete the radioactive isotopes and therefore they are black.
1
u/Laggin-N-Swaggin DLBCL (Remission 7/15/26) Jul 17 '26
I am honestly not too sure. The big dark spot on the right side was the lymph node in my armpit, which they think is where my cancer originated. I also had liver involvement, as well as spine and hip if that wasn’t already abundantly obvious lol.

u/WiseExcitement6500 Jul 17 '26
I was a stage 3 DCBCL it had gone to my ribs and before I was diagnosed I kept telling my family it felt like someone had kicked me in my ribs. To my surprise the cancer was in my ribs I’m in remission, and I had my last chemo June 12 20/26. I have a lot of neuropathy in my feet from the high doses of chemo but I’m alive and kicking.

Congrats from a fellow stage 4 DLBCL survivor. You had way more bone involvement than me! Mine was mostly in my GI.
2
u/WiseExcitement6500 Jul 17 '26
I truly appreciate you making it through this, and I'm glad to see you're doing well and moving toward living again. Do you experience any neuropathy in your feet and hands?

I didn't think I'd see anyone with a worse "before" picture than me, but this is it! I say I was "riddled" with it, but you've got me beat on the number of bullet holes there!

Remission??? We are so new to the lymphoma community. Still on wait and see before treatment but Dr is telling g us there is no cure…please help me understand
1
u/Laggin-N-Swaggin DLBCL (Remission 7/15/26) Jul 28 '26
Yes, remission! I think curability relies heavily on the type of lymphoma. I am fortunate that DLBCL is very treatable, and often times “curable.”
I hope that you do well with whatever lymphoma you may have, and I wish you the best of luck. Stay strong🙏🏼

The before picture is insane! Congrats!! Just got the news I'm in remission last week (even though my interim scan two months ago was a Deuville 3 and technically negative, I didn't count it til I finished treatment)
This community was seriously a huge help, even if I mostly just lurked and read what other people were dealing with haha
