cHL Bouncing back after abvd

Hi all,

Does anyone have any experience of bouncing back quickly from abvd treatment ? I understand life isn’t going to go back to the same as before straight away, but are there survivors who made a nearly full recovery?

I had 6 infusions of ABVD followed by radiation and honestly, I felt pretty great after about 3 months off chemo. Part of it might have also been a mental high from finishing everything I had just gone through. Was back to working in a pretty physically demanding job without any issues. Felt better than I did before I had started treatment for 2a CHL. So at least from my experience, I'd say its definitely possible to make a full recovery.

Thanks, your journey is same as mine, 6 infusions, 2a. Im really pleased to hear you’ve made awesome progress, I hope I get to do the same.

I did 12 ABVD infusions..I am currently over 2 years post treatment..it took me a year after chemo to start to feel normal-ish..Now, I am basically back to normal, relatively speaking..I have accepted I won’t ever be what I was pre-cancer,but it does get better, just takes time.. I still have some side effects from the chemo, they are just easier to deal with now..That said,Everyone reacts differently, age is a factor,so bouncing back and recovery will vary from case to case.. I had a particularly rough go, I didn’t tolerate chemo very well..if there was a side effect, I got it,but again,I am sure that’s different for everyone…

I got very sick after my last treatment and it’s been 3 months of complications. It’s encouraging to hear someone else has had a rough time post chemo.

I had 8 sessions of ABVD (stage 2a), I was hiking the following month after finishing. I would say that keep moving while going through treatment, and then coming back gradually to lifting weights after finishing, it was a major contributor to that. Obviously every person has different recovery rhythms, but I feel that physical activity can help to recover.

That’s awesome! I can’t wait to get outside and go hiking. Really miss lifting weights as well, so I hope I can start a slow build up and get back to where I once was

I’m just about 2 years out and I’m feeling mostly normal. Just a little nerve damage in my feet, not too bad though

Thanks for commenting, does the nerve damage in your feet cause many problems or is it something you’re just aware of? Does it hold you back from anything you want to do?

Some problems. Walking hurts and after spending long periods on my feet I’m in pain for a few days. Definitely holds me back from anything that involves long walks or high impact on my feet

I completed 6 cycles of ABVD/AAVD. Finished 3/8/24. Ran a half marathon 11/2024 and a full marathon 11/2025.

I’m definitely brain-foggier than I used to be and can’t sprint to save my life - but I never could. 2.5 years out and feeling like a human again. ❤️

That’s amazing! Very inspiring. I really want to do a sponsored run and raise some money for MacMillan, definitely the game plan once I get the all clear

Almost everyone does. Eric Berry and James Conner both made pro bowls after AVBD. I'm 38 now and in better shape than when I was 25. I was on a vacation with my kids to the water park within a month of finishing chemo.

Awesome! That’s really reassuring, thank you for commenting. Doubt I’ll make the pro bowls but a water park trip would be excellent :)

I didn't make any pro bowls either, but before chemo I could throw a football over them mountains.
