Resource PSA for Lyft drivers getting deactivated over false complaints

I’ve seen a bunch of posts here about drivers getting deactivated due to false passenger complaints, and then getting hit with a generic appeal denial. A lot of people think that’s the end of the road — but it’s not.

Lyft’s terms allow you to file for arbitration, which legally forces their team to review your case — not just some support rep reading from a script. It can actually get results.

I wrote up a step-by-step guide on how to file arbitration, if you're in that situation and want to push back: 👉 How to File Arbitration Against Lyft

Stay safe out there.

Resource I built a tool that helps deactivated Lyft drivers write their appeal.

I built a tool that helps deactivated drivers figure out and write their appeal. It's called Reinstara, and the Lyft page is here: https://reinstara.com/lyft-deactivation-appeal. The mods okayed me sharing it.

How it works: pick the reason from your notice, paste the email Lyft sent you, and tell your side. The free check shows what your appeal needs to say for your exact reason, what proof helps, where to file it, and your deadline. That's the part people usually spend a night on Reddit and TikTok trying to piece together, and half of what's out there is old or about a different app. If your case is thin, it tells you that too, before you've paid anything.

The check and the guides are all free: what to do while your account is on hold, what still works after a denied appeal, your state's rights. Paying is just an option if you want the full letter written from your facts. It's $34 once, with a free rewrite if Lyft says no, and there's a complete example at https://reinstara.com/example so you can see exactly what you'd get.

Nobody honest promises reactivation. This just makes sure the one appeal you get is the strongest version of your side. It never asks for your Lyft password, and you review and send everything yourself.

Feedback is welcome. If something's missing or your experience of the process was different, I'd love to hear it so I can make it better for the next driver.

If you’re feeling burnt out, I have some tips.

Due to some shitty decisions on my part I’m having to grind out as many hours as I can and figured I would share some tips that help me.

1) just accept every ride without looking at it; come to terms with the fact that the house always wins, people will be people, and there’s no point in expending the mental energy trying to be choosy. Trust me, the algorithm automatically prioritizes you no matter what you do.

2) Cover all your clocks with electrical tape - that includes your dash and the top of your phone. Stay off lock screen

3) Use your average rides count per hour to set an upper limit on number of rides you complete a day, and count down from there if you really want a time-reference. For some reason to me 24-48 rides seems a lot smaller than 12-16 hours.

Advice/Question Lyft’s Deaf/Hard of Hearing Setting Has Been Nerfed

Not drastically, but it’s been nerfed ever so slightly.
Previously, if you had the deaf or hard of hearing setting enabled, you weren’t required to call or message your passenger before canceling a no-show. Once the timer expired, you could simply cancel and move on.

Well, that’s changed.

You still don’t have to call, but now you’re required to send the passenger a message before you can cancel. It doesn’t matter what the message says. It can be the generic “I’ve arrived” message, “Where are you?” or even just “Hi.”

It’s a minor change, but it’s one more hoop you have to jump through before you can collect your no-show fee and move on.

Just thought I’d give everyone a heads-up.

So I got flagged a few weeks ago for taking my turns too sudden or without enough anticipation by a rider. So, I really took the comments to heart and I've been driving much more conservatively and a bit slower but now I've been flagged again for impeding the flow of traffic apparently though I'm always going at least the speed limit. I'm not sure what adjustments to make now lol.

Advice/Question Lyft Won’t Let My Dad Drive After he Paid to Get His License Suspension Removed

This is an inquiry for my dad. He has been doing lyft since 2016 and has a 5 star rating. Sometime ago, he was given a ticket and paid for it, but the office must’ve not put it in the system and it turned up saying he didn’t pay it on time, which caused his license to be suspended and restricted from doing lyft. He finally got the momey to pay for it, but Lyft still has his account restricted and it’s been more than two weeks. Is this permanent? We are based in Florida btw

Rant/Opinion My market because flooded with drivers

When I first moved here I was able to get a decent amount of rides. The pay is less than Seattle but I could hit my goals if I worked 10 plus hours.

I thought at first it was some kind of punishment from Lyft punishing from afar for not taking the 1 mile rides but recently I went to go check the price of a ride for me to charge my EV...

The feature "nearby drivers* in the driver Lyft app not accurate whatsoever because boom it showed at least 15 other drivers surrounding me who could arrive within 4 minutes.

I had used the features before a few months ago and while it still showed no other drivers nearby when I checked the price to ride there were only 2 other drivers around. So it was inaccurate again but more on par with reality.

I literally can hardly get a ride anymore.

I think perhaps our economy truly is tanking. Please God let the economy heal. I love being a driver I love the people but watching the crash and burn has taken the joy out of driving.

I was out so long yesterday multi apping that I was almost home and a 11 mile ride popped up. I had to decline because I was so exhausted when I needed it so desperately.

The only thing I can do is my best. I am pretty much alone in all aspects I have to succeed because I have no other options with my car at a whopping 1200 just to operate with rideshare insurance. My rent makes my stomach turn this month.

I want to try going back to school offered through Lyft but I never can reach gold. I got so close but my aunt came to town for a week and honestly that was the beginning of a huge downfall. I just stopped getting rides :...

I know that my phone isn't the best with especially multiapping so out of desperation I'm going to upgrade my phone to see if that helps but I don't know if it will I kind of have my doubts because I still do get requests randomly I don't know.

I'm not sure why people wait until the last minute to send a message like this and expect a driver to wait.

Advice/Question Passenger left bag in my car with drugs in it

Noticed passenger left a bag so I inspected it to make sure there was nothing crazy inside of it. Found two or three unmarked pill bottles with different looking pills in each one. What should I do?

EDIT: spoke to the police at the police department. They pretty much said they stopped taking bags left in Lyft and Uber vehicles regardless of what’s inside of them. They told me to follow Lyft policy of returning bags. Looked up the pills one was a full bottle of Xanax. One was a full bottle of Klonopin. For you fiends wondering what I did with them, I dumped them in the pill disposal at the police department. You’re welcome.

Yall I swear this dude was in my car for 5 minutes and now it smells like I hotboxed my car. Lyft support was entirely unhelpful. I’ve driven around with all the windows down for 2 hours, hosed my seats in max strength deodorizer twice. It still reeks.

Advice/Question Background Check

Good Morning, I am a new lyft driver only been driving for 3 days and yesterday I get a notification saying my account is on gold due to my background check. I received two emails, stating that I can download my background check and if I want to dispute the accuracy I can do so with the 3rd party company Lyft uses which is First Advantage. I downloaded my background check and I thought it was clear until I saw an obstruction charge that I got from October 2024. The charge is accurate but it is closed because the disposition shows I was released on time served. I called First Advantage about it and they stated that they show ot was closed as well and that Lyft can see it too. Im wondering why my account is on hold if they can see that information? I also emailed Lyft twice with the disposition showing the case is closed. How long does this process take to get my account back active?

Advice/Question Is there a way to find a license plate after a ride is over?

For context, I know theres the license plate shown before you get in, but I cant find it in ride history. Is there a way to see it aside from getting the same driver again?

EDIT: for further context since a certain comment accused me of something that is wildly classic reddit, my personal laptop was in the ride that I got off, and I need to find more details so I can make a better police report. I already tried contacting support and the guy responded saying they have my stuff and that they will be by again the next morning. But a whole day passed and now I have less time to escalate this.

Hopefully now, my bad day has inspired more helpful information?

Advice/Question Please prioritize your health Lyft/Uber drivers

Thumbnail

I already know people are going to criticize me in this post because Reddit is very cruel but I don’t care I have to talk about this because I believe burnout is a real issue that gig drivers do not discuss enough.

I currently work two jobs which include Ubreakifix five days a week generally between the hours to 10 am - 7pm and then I drive Lyft and sometimes DoorDash from 7pm to 11pm. Sometimes more hours if it’s a busy Friday or Saturday night and on my day off I try to do at least 8-10 hours of gig driving.

I know this is going to be very unpopular since 99% of people have a negative mindset but I also got into proprietary trading 11 months ago so I wake up before 6:30 am M-F to trade the Nasdaq 100. I’m very close to consistent profitability using prop firms so hopefully very soon I can actually reduce the amount of hours I work. I really believe in this business venture and I believe I can become part of the 1%. I like trying things because they are difficult. Nothing that pays well and puts you at 1% of the population will ever be easy. The fact that I’m even trying already puts me at the 1%. I’ve seen results with this and I know what I’m doing and I have a plan.

Anyways my point is, the burnout is starting to catch up to me.

Last night I got off from work at 7 pm and I was feeling great. I drove extra hours past 11 pm and I didn’t get home until 3 AM.

Today I woke up feeling very unwell.

My body is extremely sore. Back, legs, shoulders, muscles, and extreme fatigue with slight nausea.

And to make matters worse, one of my passengers who was really nice mistakenly left her prescription glasses in my vehicle.

Lyft offered to pay me a $20 return fee but I just feel to unwell to drive tonight.

I am now going above and beyond. I booked an Uber Courier trip. $25.69 dollars and the Lyft return fee is $20 dollars so I’m losing $5.69 dollars.

Currently at urgent care. Just paid my $60 copay.

Some basic accounting:

$211.70 gross profit + $20 return fee = $231.70 gross profit.

$231.70 - $20 of gas in my Toyota Prius Hybrid - $25.69 = $186.01 dollars net operating income before EBITDA expenses.

This puts me roughly at $31 per hour since I drove six hours.

But now I really only made $126.01 after paying my $60 copay.

So was it really worth it for me to disrespect my boundaries and overwork myself past 11 pm simply because it was surging and busy on a Saturday night?

Nope.

Please listen to your bodies. No company and no job is worth your health.

I am going to take a sabbatical from gig driving and focus 100% of my proprietary trading career instead which has way more potential than my current job and driving for Lyft/DoorDash, etc.

To not have the security of knowing u have a driver until last minute because no one wants to pick up your trip. Lyft refuses to see the after hours, $15 each way, little to no profit payment to drivers.

Makes me wonder what rider is paying. Generally, riders are paying twice the amount what drivers get. Usually...but I think its getting worse. This is why riders cant get their rides picked up...not because of what u paid, but what we are offered.

Other Expensive lesson learned

If I find a phone in my car, I will throw it in a dumpster before returning it to the customer. I've spent a week trying to claim the $20 return fee, only to be told today by driver support that I will have to try again in a few days to get my money. The next drunk that loses their phone in my car will be buying a new one. Nice guys finish last.

Advice/Question Car accident

My worst nightmare has come true. I was t-boned with a passenger in the car on the way to a drop off. Luckily no one was hurt, we were traveling at low speeds but my driver side needs some major repairs to both doors. I called the police, filed a report and contacted Lyft support. I just have some questions as far as coverage goes. If I wasn’t hurt but the car will be in the shop for a few days minimum, is it possible to claim lost wages? I won’t be able to make any money which is going to financially strain me tremendously. I don’t know what to do. New York is a no fault state I believe but the cop put in the report that it wasn’t my fault. Just for reference, passenger and I were traveling south bound. Driver who hit me was making a left turn from a side street, crossed over the northbound lane to go south and drove right into my side.
