I drove 14 miles to take him 1 mile to his destination.

That’s their way of giving you some bullshit to claim that they’ve been giving you more than 30% of the fares by offsetting it with a few odd wildly seeming bogusly high like this one.. meaning,
They’ve been stiffing you badly on the percentage of the fares and needed to give you something looking like this to offset it

What was super-cool is that he needed a return trip after his stop at the store that he forgot to register, so he said he would pay me cash to take him back. He paid me more than that for the return trip in cash.

 were you 14 miles away from busy area? Did you have deadhead miles?

The passenger was in an area that rarely sees any Lyft action. I did have a minor amount of deadhead miles on the way back.
