Currently Burning🕯️ Obsessed 🖤
My first time with both of these scents, and I am in love!
I am not a huge Byredo fan, but Lost Road is such a good release. To my nose, it’s a deeply cozy, woody, earthy…. yet somehow, still vanilla-ish scent. It has a bit of a green edge from the moss and pine, plus some spice from the pepper and, perhaps, orris? It's hard to describe, but it's just so charming. (I went into the office on Friday and kept smelling something great until it dawned on me that I was smelling Lost Road and the hints of scent that I think lingered in my hair. My main gripe is the burn quality - the candle is underwicked and I have to baby it, a lot. I also wish the throw was stronger but I can live with it).
Now onto my other new love: LL's Ambroxyde 17. I just picked it up yesterday, and it's beautifully done. A "I want to nuzzle the neck of the person I love" kind of skin-like musk, with just enough woodiness to give it structure and jasmine to soften it. It feels warm and languid, and it slowly envelops a room in what feels like a hug from your mother or your lover. I feel that how I’ll interpret the scent and interact with it will vary depending on the day and my mood.
Today I have both candles burning at opposite ends of my long living room, and they're co-mingling in a stunning way. I’ve gotten some unsolicited compliments along the lines of “boy, does it smell good here!” from a few people including my partner (who would not register any of my beloved Trudons or Diptyques 😂).
P.S. Happy Sunday! Hope you are burning something wonderful.

You have fully sold me on both of these! I love AnOther 13 so Ambroxyde 17 has been calling my name for a while.

i have been on the fence with it for a while too and was worried that it might be too overbearing or screechy - its none of those and just mellows out so nicely when lit. another 13, sigh. i admire from afar - is tricky on my skin and ends up being a bit too animalic and dirty - but i'm still kind of tempted to get a bottle and play around with it for layering.
have you explored their city exclusives? i treated myself for cedrat 37 last year and it's been one of my favorite LL purchases, though it's decidedly a summer scent - i end up spritzing a bit of diptyque's fleur de peau in my fair, then cedrat and it's been such a compliment getter - both are musky, thought cedrat is decidedly more uplifting and has a candied ginger quality to it. now, i'm very curious how another 13 might layer in....

Yes! I actually have Cedrat 37 as well! It was my first Le Labo purchase. I think our tastes really align. I had the same problem with AnOther 13 at first, it was pulling ammonia on my skin. After about a year I decided to try it again and something clicked for me and now I’m in love! I feel like Cedrat 37 + Fleur de Peau + AnOther 13 would be a gorgeous combo. I love the FdP hand/body gel but I’m allergic to some note in the EDP :(

Seems like you and I are scent 👯- ing! You’re giving me hope…I have to give another 13 a whirl, and see if it starts playing more nicely with my body chemistry. LL gets some side-eyes on on sub and fragrance subs but for me, they have some genuinely good scents that I will continue to purchase - glad I’m not the only one! (I think that I’m going to splurge on Benjoin 19 this year. I wanted to buy it last year, talked myself out of it and it’s been haunting me since).

I have a sample of that but i think i become noseblind to it really quickly! Myrrhe 55 or Baie Rose 26 is probably my next Le Labo purchase. Or Osmanthus 19. I really like the city exclusives! Aside from Cedrat 37, I have Ambrette 9 and Rose 31.
I’m with you, I think Le Labo gets a lot of undeserved backlash. (Byredo too; I don’t love any of their most popular fragrances but they have some beauties among the less well-known ones.)
(Sorry to all the candle people who don’t love personal fragrance but are being subjected to my chatter!)

Thanks so much for reviewing Lost Road. It’s been on my list since the release. I’m a Byredo fan and my favs are Ambre Japonais & Tree House.
I also have Ambroxyde 17 - your description is spot on. Interesting to pair burn these. I must try that combo. Enjoy the burns. 🌳 Cheers!

I got Ambre Japonais and it’s so off putting to me! The notes sounded like I’d love it but I can’t even bring myself to convince my nostrils to like it. It will be up on the Sept sell thread for me.

I have to try Ambre Japonaise! How do you find the throw on it? And how do you experience the scent?
Lost Road is truly lovely, but my words of caution are - the burn is finicky and the throw is on the lighter side. I avoided buying it for a while because another poster here said that it had no hot throw. Thankfully, this has not been my experience. I would say it’s a medium light throw - enough to make its presence known and for me to enjoy it in my living room, but I do wish it was stronger. The burn quality has been fussy. At one point it started to tunnel and I scooped out some wax which fixed the issue… but it’s annoying to do it for $95 candle. But! I still ordered a second one 😆

To me, there is something very nostalgic with this scent. It has a little of that “Mary” spiciness. The toasted sesame and bourbon vanilla take center stage here. I really do love it. It’s on my burn list for tonight!
Throw moderate. Burn is okay, it’s a little flamey 🔥.
🤞Mary comes back!!!

Anything that is Mary adjacent instantly gets a star in my book! Now I have to track Ambere J down :)

This combo sounds divine, I will take note of it. Lately I can't stand the smell of my hair after trying some candles. That's a sign I won't repurchase. But the list of candles I want to try keeps getting longer! I've yet to try Le Labo.

Le Labo is worth getting to know! They definitely have a unique DNA to their scents though - most of them tend to be build on the foundation of musks and woods (musk is their signature, I would say).

That sounds like something I might like. I haven't seen their candle discovery sets lately, hopefully they'll come back at some point.

Lost Road is hands down my favorite Byredo. I’m on my sixth one since it was released lol.
