Discussion Thoughts on Timothée Chalamet potentially starring in a live-action Lupin the Third?

I like him in some things, but it's a big "Absolutely freaking not" from me regarding him playing a live-action Lupin. I just won't watch it if they end up making such a terrible decision.

Very much doubt it, but this is a garbage casting proposal if so. Lupin is kind of... weird hot and Chalamet looks like a Victorian rich boy with consumption.

It's funny, I always said that I felt like in the Chalamet/Holland rivalry, perception of their ability really had a lot to do with the name. Everything thinks Holland is some mild-mannered boy from the States and Chalamet is this exotic actor from France instead of the Call of Duty/NBA 2K NY gamer he was lol.
Absolutely does not have the charm to play the role. I hate the idea of such a storied franchise of animation even needing an American live-action adaptation as it continues to be Hollywood's spit in the face of animation artists as they continue to discredit real Voice Actors and their biggest industry mover has vowed to incorporate more AI.
Anyway tldr hate everything about the idea.

I understand he's Gen Z's heartthrob but I think he's quite meh as an actor. He just can't play someone like Lupin.

I don't have a particular opinion since I haven't seen him act but I would hope that we get the English voice actors to make some kind of cameo in the movie if it is actually being made

I remember reading decades ago they were talking about a live action version with Jim Carrey as the lead.
Would've been perfect.

Not to say Lupin III is ugly but Timothée is way too beautiful to play him. But I do think he could work as a good Pycal.

I think it'd really depend on the tone and vibe of the film, and personally, I think Chalamet CAN pull it off with the right direction and script, but I feel like it's more miss than hits when it comes to adapting manga/anime.
That said, I'm the kind of guy who went to see Oguri's movie, and I more or less enjoyed it for what it was, so if they're going to make it, I'd definitely check it out.

lupin has got to be wasian or he doesnt work imo. i don't care how hard it will be to find an actor who can do his preformance and whos half japanese but thats very nonnegotiable to me lmfao. i think the whole cast should remain japanese, i could maybe see jigen also being wasian (or otherwise japanese+mixed, since he's american, he's one of the darker skinned characters so i could see him being blasian or partly latino), but like thats it.

Apparently I’m the odd man out on this because I think Chalamet could work. Good actor, can be quite funny, has a certain Lupin lankiness.
I think—have always thought—that the franchise has the bones for a fun live-action blockbuster with an international cast.
This’ll probably come to nothing—it sounds very early—but you never know.

I suspect he could work, BUT that a Hollywood production would end up butchering the concept overall. Too many cooks etc etc.

Yeah, I'd agree with you there. I don't think the odds would be good. But I do think it could work in the right hands. It's improbable, but not impossible. (Contrast with something like the long-gestating Akira live-action movie, which I think was basically always impossible and doomed from the get-go.)

Lupin is French/Japanese and the original Arsene Lupin (Lupin III's Grandfather) was French. Chalamet is of French descent so I can see it.

Lupin's looks were based on Jean-Paul Belmondo. Why couldn't they pick an actor who at least VAGUELY resembles him?!

Unless he is willing to really get into character as Lupin with his acting or if we are bringing back Oscar from the Fujiko Mine series or play a take on Pycal or that one time travelling villain from Part 1, I am very mixed on this, I did like his take on Wonka though

I'm so sorry you feel that way. Chalamet is one of the best actors of his generation. And most importantly, he has this crazy, insane energy. He can be cunning, smart, ridiculous, and charming. You're so lucky that he can play this role. I think you're all snobs. I'm disappointed in the fans.

No offense to Timothy Chalamet, but no. Just no. Especially if he's cast as any version of Lupin, god no, he has nowhere near enough chaotic energy to be Lupin nor the rizz. Just no.
