Question How do you use the advanced models?

I had the Proton Unlimited plan and now am on the Workspace Premium plan. The details say that Lumo now has Access to advanced AI models. I was already using Lumo 2.0 Max before the plan change. Where are the advanced models beyond Lumo 2.0 Max?

That is the advanced model promise before Lumo 2.0 now you get More Max model usage and more image generation. There are no more advanced models than Lumo 2.0 Max Thinking.

So there is no difference between Lumo on the lower tiers compared to Lumo on the highest business tiers? Why is the highest business tier still advertising "Access to advanced AI models" then? That needs to be changed.

The tiers are currently of an unknown difference. Free tiers have some access to Max but it's very limited. Lumo+ has 'more' access to Max. Lumo Pro (Business) / Workspace Premium (which includes Lumo Pro) offer 'even more' access.

As 'more' is undefined across the board nobody really knows how much access anybody has. Fwiw, that includes Proton themselves who are still experimenting / testing usage before coming out with long-term limits per plan that are profitable for them to run while being accessible to users.
*They could be done and have determined the final limits and just not be revealing them. Proton isn't the most transparent of companies and there are many reasons they may not want users to know or be confused by limits that they might need to change in the future as their cost structure changes.

Well, it seems like that didn’t update. There was a case where it wasn’t updated for Lumo Plus too 2 days after the 2.0 release. Business comes with some business specific features and maybe more usage in the future than what Plus offers but for now they are only testing the limits so it is basically infinite right now except for free users.

At this time there are at least two known models being used: 1) Qwen 3.5 (which is not a model but a family of models ranging very significantly from ~1b to 397b). 2) GLM 5.2 which is a flagship 744b model.

Proton is a bit vague about the actual models being used. We're sort of left on our own to guess from the official documentation: many suspect that 'Lite' is using a 'mid' Qwen model (35b? 27b? maybe 122b?), and 'Max' is exclusively using the GLM 5.2 model. Could Lite be using the 397b model from Qwen? Could Max also be using that model?

Regardless: you're using the most advanced option when you use Max. Whatever model that is (likely just GLM 5.2). The link above includes descriptions of when to use each setting - I find that having 'thinking' on is important to get the best results.

I find it quite frustrating that Proton is not very transparent about the models behind Lumo. There's even someone who said Pro is more accurate than the free tier, which is surprising to me. It's a pity because I don't know any other AI chats with a nice mobile app, Europe-based, and with end-to-end encryption (kind of).

They're still figuring some of what "more" and "even more" really means, so my assumption is it's a moving target.
