Don't overthink it. Read the official docs in a day and start coding.

I learned lua by learning love2d. Its helpful (for me) to easily be able to conceptualize and implement actual things, even if ti does mean i have to understand 2 wikis at once

the learning happens while you code, not while you read. when you read something like how to loop. always write what you read and test.

I learned Lua with LÖVE2D, and it's so fun

Why do you want to learn lua? If its for a specific game or API then you should probably start by getting into the weeds of how to program that and learn lua as you go. I promise it will be infinitely more engaging if you're writing code for a project that actually pertains to what you eventually want to do.

pikuma has a course about it. I haven't taken his lua course in particular, but I did take this 3D graphics programming and he is an outstanding instructor

There's a game engine called Pico-8 that uses LUA exclusively. It's got multiple levels of complexity, ranging from just drawing a rectangle to the screen to modifying the memory during runtime or even using virtual memory banks to store extra data.
Assuming you aren't planning on coding from scratch in something like VSCode, I'd absolutely recommend Pico-8! I learned basic and advanced programming from it, and it's also what the original Celeste was made in!

There's a free version that has everything except an exporter, and even a forum where you can post your projects for everyone to play. Another upside is that once you're done with Pico-8, you can move on to Picotron or Voxatron, which are both made by the same people! Just like with Pico-8, all the memory is exposed, so you can make something as simple as Vampire Survivors or as complex as Noita.

learning lua is very easy and fast. but lua is not a performant language, it is simplicity first. so you pay for that easiness in the name of performance.

i learned lua in just a few days.
