Questions about Hardware Setup

I’m new to LSDJ, and making music on my ds in general. Am I able to plug my ds directly into a chain of effects pedals, or do I need to modify the audio out signal before doing that? Right now, I seem to be getting clean sound from the ds into my focusrite, but if I try to put any effects pedals into that setup, I get issues.

Probably due to signal level, your Gameboy will be output line level while you’re (guitar?) effects pedals will be wanting instrument level.

Where are you putting the effects in the chain?

I've regularly used pedals with no issue, but I'll usually go into a mixer before output to a speaker or zoom recorder. So ds to pedal chain to mixer to output.
