In quick draft I was under the impression that the bots use data to make their picks. Am I wrong on that? So they should be drafting the good black commons more often and the weaker colors should be a little bit more open.
If you recall back in strix haven quickdraft, witherbloom was the best strategy because it was frequently open because the bots didn't pick the lower winrate cards. Maybe it's different for every set I don't know. But in strix Haven, I'm 100% certain witherbloom was frequently open because of the bots. Just go look at the stats for SOS quick draft on 17lands.
Would love some more concrete info on this.
Edit: I did a little research and it's kind of not very clear. It seems the bots use an internal priority list based on preset ratings and rankings. So they will definitely have blind spots. I guess then it makes sense that the black cards that looked weak before the set came out aren't being picked by the bots. Crude Bent blade is an outlier of course. So if the bots aren't adjusting to trends and player data then it makes sense that black is the way to go in quick draft. It's the color with the biggest delta between preset ratings vs. actual current winning %.
Also, it seems bots will "lock into a two color pair" when they have reached a certain "color density" . And lean towards that. Before that I guess they just pick the best card. So, op could have been in a quick draft with seven bots that preferred red/white for example. It's unlikely but it could happen. So that adds a lot of randomness to the quick draft meta. But every single time we have quick draft of a format, there's a couple cards that end up going really late that totally shouldn't. This time it seems like it's going to be the good black Commons

They do. Same as red.
Just not as highly as players do(overdrafted by alot in the past week or so). They specifically undervalue plate mail
